Pleasantville (1998)
Integrated Cultural Framework
Through the analysis of Pleasantville since the culture changes by two siblings joining the show, it's better to analyze individual’s own cultures and how this reflects to overall cultural changes within Pleasantville.
Ability of Influence
David has high ability to influence, in which he convinces Mr. Johnson to do tasks that are not a part of his routine, later Mr. Johnson starts to be able to accomplish tasks that he did not do on his own before, such as closing the curtains, locking the door etc. when leaving the Soda Shop. When Soda Shop gets vandalized
Mr. Johnson is very afraid to paint, David convinces him staying by his side to paint the wall of the Police Station.
David’s ability to influence can be observed during the county court trial, where he even manages to change the judge.
Jennifer also has high ability to influence, she influences people at Lover's
Lane, first crossing the boundaries in Pleasantville and initiating a sexual contact with
Skip, later causing the insecure couples around them to do the same and change the whole Lover's Lane atmosphere,
Jennifer changes the verbal aspect of culture at Pleasantville where the word
"swell" gets replaced with "cool".
Jennifer promotes people to take care of their sexual needs (personal freedom from rules such as "safe sex"), which in time change the whole culture in Pleasantville as people who fulfill their needs (which they are unaware of) they start to get colorful, and start to do things that are not a part of their culture.

Bob's ability to influence is demonstrated when he visits
George at his house and makes him a member of Pleasantville
Chamber of Commerce, asking in return to help him stop this change and "stand up for what’s right" After the changes and nude painting of Betty, residents of
Pleasantville start to revolt against the changes. Immediately after they decide to hold a Town
Meeting, where everyone

What will happen if United States declare its official language as English? Will the country continue to accept immigrants afterward? It will probably be the end of the long history of the immigration in the country. It will need additional one or two generations to fully shift their languages to English. What about the legal U.S. citizens immigrated to this country and have continued to use their mother language until today? Do they have to switch their language to English regardless of their own long history in this country? Why do they have to do so? Additionally, it will have to solve numerous problems related to the issue of multilingualism in order to be monolingual. Rejecting to be multilingual will mean in rejecting to be America. Immigrants do not need to shift their language to English as quickly as possible, yet their culture and language should be treated with respect and integrated rather than assimilated into American society.…

However, he also highlights that the lower class people also had pride (for e.g. Joe).…
