The BIBLE is a HISTORICAL DOCUMENT

The Bible is a historical account of God revealing Himself and His purpose to His people and the world. The Biblical manuscripts are accurate, reliable, and authentic in their presentations of the facts. The miracles recorded in the Bible are historical events which occurred in the lives of real people. (See the Is the Bible the Reliable Word ofGod? Study, and Luke 1:1-4, Acts 1:1-3,Hebrews 1:1-2, 11)

The miracles of the Bible were witnessed by men and women who were able to tell the truth, who were willing to tell the truth, and who would die for what they believed was the truth.

The miracles recorded by these individuals did occur in time-space history, by the power of a transcendent and immanent God. They were done that His truths might be revealed, His moral nature might be known, and to bring good into His creation.

The MIRACLES of CHRIST

Throughout the New Testament we find Jesus performing miracles: the water to wine, casting out demons, healing the sick, giving sight to the blind, raising the dead, etc. Peter says of Jesus, "Jesus the Nazarene, a man attested to you by God with miracles and wonders and signs which God performed through Him in your midst, just as yourselves know . . . " (Acts 2:22)

Jesus said, "Believe that I am the Father, and the Father in Me; otherwise believe on account of the works (miracles, signs, and wonders) themselves." (John 14:11)

In Matthew 12:38-41 Jesus was asked to perform a sign; His comment was, " . . . no sign shall be given to you but the sign of Jonah the prophet, for just as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the sea monster, so shall the Son of Man be three days and nights in the heart of the earth."

Here Jesus was speaking of the greatest sign He would

Christ reassures Martha that he is “the resurrection and the life” (“Raising of Lazarus”) and can perform unimaginable miracles. Jesus followed Martha back to Lazarus’s body, and he orders Lazarus to rise.…

Healing of the Lame Man: Jesus went up to Jerusalem during the time of a feast "and a certain man was there, which had an infirmity thirty and eight years." Jesus asked the man will thou be made whole? The lame man replied that he had no one to put into the pool when the water was troubled. "Jesus saith unto him, Rise, take up thy bed, and walk. 9And immediately the man was made whole, and took up his bed, and walked." This sign miracle shows the deity of Christ because Jesus has power over time and the ability to heal all manner of sickness and…

Throughout the novel "a prayer for Owen Meany," by John Irving, the main character is portrayed as a very religious martyr. In the Christian faith Jesus Christ is a martyr as well. Although there are many differences between the life of Jesus, as depicted in the bible and Owen Meany, there are many similarities as well, so many in fact, that the reader is forced to ponder if these similarities are intentional.…

“[Miracles] would not…answer any useful purpose.” said Thomas Paine, author of “Common Sense.” In Paine’s mind, miracles were out of the question because Christ would be degrading Himself and nature would have to change its natural order to accommodate Jesus. Perhaps, Paine could be considered a bit of a snob. Jesus walked the earth long before Paine’s time and had to use example from that time period to help people understand much like how Paine had to examples from the war in his paper to stir people to action. Christ used miracles in the culture He was in to help people trust him.…

    1. According to John Mackie, a miracle is an extraordinary event that’s conclusion is evidence of God’s existence and action within reality. For the event to be called a miracle, there are two requirements needed: a supernatural intervention to cause a violation of the natural world and for the event to have believably occurred, even if low certainty. This is a response to David Hume’s definition of a miracle as an impossible violation of laws. While Hume argue that miracles cannot be unless it can be reinterpreted within natural laws, Mackie state that with a purposeful intrusion from God allows for miracles to happen. Had someone died and came back to life hours later, Hume would state that person wasn’t died and his internal system took…

Once upon a time, a man walked this earth named Jesus. He performed miracles, spoke of the future, and is the figure head of a religion with over 2 billion followers; Christianity. Most Christians either believe that every word of the bible is meant to be taken 100% literally, or it is to be interpreted, meaning we should examine what the writers were *trying* to say. I'm here to propose a rather radical explanation of why **everything written in the Bible may be 100% true**. Yes you read that correctly.…

We learn in the bible that he would perform miraculous wonder in front off all the nations. We then see how he rose from the dead and walked all around the world preaching and teaching for 30 days. Also when he ascends into heaven the whole world was able to see his glory shine. This is a show on how what was prophesied came to live. How what was in the word became flesh and dwelled among us (John 1:1). To this day reading God’s word surprises me and shows how real and alive God is.…
