“The Person I’ve Become”

Growing up in a big Italian family has influenced me and molded me into the eighth grader that I am today. Many people in my family have taught me the importance of family values and respecting one another. I have looked up to many members of my family such as aunts and uncles for advice and they have guided me through different situations. My father has molded me into the young man I am today by teaching me leadership, sportsmanship, responsibility and having a positive attitude. My father has coached me in basketball throughout my eight years of elementary school. During one very important travel team game this year, I talked back to my dad in front of the rest of the team during a time-out because we were losing and I was getting really frustrated. To teach me a lesson, he benched me for the rest of the game. He explained to me afterwards that it was very embarrassing that I disrespected him in front of others and that my attitude affected the whole team. My mother has guided me and influenced me throughout my whole life. She has taught me to become more mature and to take on more responsibilities. I have to get my younger sister off the bus when my mother is not around and help her with her homework. My mother has also taught me to respect others and to help out around the house when I’m needed. She constantly reminds me never to give up on anything, even if it gets really difficult. Another big influence in my life has been my aunts, uncles and cousins. I have eight boy cousins in my family and we are all around the same age. We have a great time when we get together for family events and holidays. We are all real close and they have helped me realize the importance of family. My family has molded my life and brought me to the point I am today. My family is always getting together and celebrating family traditions and events. I will always remember the importance of family and how they

When I was much, much younger, my family was pretty much everything my life was about. I was never a terribly social child while I was growing up and going through preschool and elementary school, I mean I had the friends who I met at school that I was friends with and enjoyed at school, but when I went home everything was about my family. I always had my sister, who was my best relatively-close-to-my-age friend for a good while because I had yet to really get to know anyone as well as I knew her, and then there were my parents. I was always super duper close to my parents when I was younger, mainly my mom because I was the youngest and she coddled me so much and it was great and we loved each other very much. I always looked up to my dad…

The meaning of family is too pass traits on through the generations. Although at the time I did not want to work hard and spend time with my grandfather it was worth it because he was passing on his hard working characteristics that he acquired in his life and was passing them on to me. I learned a lot working with my grandfather. At first I would be slacking off and not getting much done but he taught that it makes more sense to get your work done first then relax later. This trait has helped me in school because it showed me not to procrastinate and get assignments done as soon as…

My first reason why family is important to my life is because they have always been there for me. Many of my peers succeed at certain sports or even various classes like English or Calculus. Although, I did struggle with my other activities and curriculum classes, family has always been there. Throughout middle school and high school, I competed with my friend for captain of the soccer team. I didn’t beat him until eighth grade when my hard work finally paid off. Because of this, I now realize how dedication and persistence can help someone achieve one’s goals. If I never decided to join the soccer team and compete for first captain, I wouldn’t have had the opportunity to challenge myself and gain the skills and characteristics that would benefit me throughout the rest of my life, if it had not been for my family pushing me to excel.…

I come from a very conservative catholic family in Peru. In my country families tend to be really closed, but mine is specially united. When I think of family I do not think only of my parents, but rather on them, my grandparents, uncles, aunts, and cousins. Since I was born I have lived with my parents in my grandparents house, which has had a huge influence on me. This is because the fact of living with elder people made be involved always in deep intelectual conversations with people that are older than me, that is what developed and propelled my intelectual curiosity. Also, I do not have siblings, however I am so close to my cousins that I might call them as if they were. They have influence me as a person by not letting me be too immerse…

In every conceivable manner, a family is liked to our past, and a bridge to our future. We all live in a family setting that can consist of one or many of our relatives. Growing up I lived with my mother, father, and my two younger brothers. I was born in Wurzburg, Germany due to the fact that my father was in the Army but I grew up in rural Portland, North Dakota. The nice thing for me growing up was the fact that both sets of my grandparents and my aunts and uncles also lived there. I believe our family traditions and the cultural legacies came from my ancestors, grandparents, and my other relatives. Our family traditions and our cultural beliefs contribute to our family values in which we follow today. I believe we take the parts of the past that meant the most to us and we also combined it with the new traditions we follow today that were created by our family. As a family style we make a house a home with love to share with all that live there.…

My family has been the primary force in the development of my worldviews because of the massive influence that they have had in my life. According to Futrell (2006), one of the major influences to a person’s worldview are the parents or close relatives. I was given the opportunity to foster the beliefs of an open mind, a questioning nature and the ability to express myself without fear. Quoting Marshall, “what you believe and value directly affects your learning” (2006, p.11). These elements all directly influence my education, how I learn and what I can learn.…
