Strength By Peter G. Northouse: Character Analysis
“Talent x Investment = Strength”, an equation from Chapter 3 of Introduction to Leadership: Concepts and Practice By Peter G. Northouse, which explains how a strength becomes a quality of a leader. For example, swimming may come natural to certain people but to become a pro swimmer, it takes practice and time invested to learn techniques to build on the talent one may already posses. With that said, identifying your strengths can be the key to becoming a successful leader. After completing the survey to identify my strengths I have concluded that my top character strengths are humor and fairness.
“Humor liking to laugh and tease; bringing smiles to other people; seeing the light side; making (not necessarily telling) jokes”(Live In Character.) I chose humor because I believe that it is one of my realized strengths, because tends to bring everyone together. Also, I have been told in my previous group projects as a leader that it is a quality they enjoyed in the process. For example, when giving pep talk to my group before a presentation, which can be stressful, that “everyone is naked and they are looking at you to take your clothes, to cover themselves.” I personally enjoy making others laugh because I feel as if it takes the stress out of a stressful

“Fairness treating all people the same according to notions of fairness and justice; not letting feelings bias decisions about others; giving everyone a fair chance”(Live In Character.) I believe fairness as my strength, should be in every leader. Personally I believe fairness, as my strength is something I practice everyday. Working with multiple diverse groups in school, work, and Beta Alpha Psi, conflict amongst individuals occurs and one has to keep the balance in order to not make bias decision based on hear say. Fairness opens the doors for others to participate because everyone can be an asset in a group; one just has to be given the chance to

I feel I have many different strengths. One of which I think stands out the most is that I’m willing to take criticism. When I get scowled by someone, I don’t take it as something negative right away. Instead I will sit down and reflect on the situation before coming to a conclusion. Many people will think the person yelling at them is terrible but I think it’s the opposite. This is because the person actually cares enough about you to point out your weaknesses so that you know and be able to fix them. A weakness of mine…

The first strength that I have as a leader is my strong achievement drive and relentless dedication to complete each job successfully. When I am given a task or set a goal that I either need or want to accomplish I will work every possible minute to accomplish the task or meet my goal. If I reach a road block while working on a task I will search endlessly for a solution and fall back on resources if needed. I believe that nothing can keep me from accomplishing any goal that I set.…

In the world, there is a constant battle between good and evil. It is a choice that all men and women have to make at some point in life. This is demonstrated in “That Hideous Strength,” as the main characters, Mark and Jane, are in a state of dissatisfaction and must simultaneously make a decision. Jane is displayed as choosing the good side. However, the choice was not always easy and sometimes frightening. As truth of the world was revealed to her, she had to learn to trust the gift she had been given and use it to draw closer to the good. At the same time, Mark chooses a different path. As he chooses evil, he falls victim and swiftly reaches a desperate point of no escape. Mark may not have realized it at first, but it did not take long…

Another strength value is using my sense of sensibility when addressing problems in the community; this is according to my ethical lens results. I am in the middle on these results, I believe that you must use sensibility but also need to be rational. If I was to favor one over the other it would have to be rationality. One strength attribute that I appreciate a whole lot is the tradition strength. I think this strength can go a long way of helping myself and others out, being able to learn from others that have been in my position and analyzing their decisions benefits me. Some may overlook this attribute; I on the other hand value this trait and have been taught this attribute from an early age and then again in the…

I find that my strengths include achievement motivation, school engagement, and reading for pleasure. I'm strong in these areas because I'm a naturally competitive person and find the need to compete with myself to do better then how I did before. My school engagement is because I have a natural interest and enthusiasm for learning new topics. Reading is a strength because it helps me understand people better, it allows me to look into the world and mind of someone new and get and understanding of why they are doing what they are doing. Although I hold these strengths I am most definitely not a perfect…

I have many strengths as well as areas to grow in, some of them overlap as both a strength and an area of growth. One of my strengths is trying hard to get any job put in front of me done no matter what it may be. Another is the inability to say no to anything someone asks me to do such as pick up a shift at work or can you help them at home. This one is as much an area of growth as it is a strength. Some areas of growth that I am focusing on improving include being more patient and not speaking too much.…

Honesty, authenticity, genuineness, bravery, and valor are my top strengths. I was shocked by these results not only because I feel they are extremely accurate, but these are the things I value most in life, especially honesty, I feel that you can hate a man to the core, but if that man is a truly honest man you can only respect him. I want to be an epitome of a truly honest man, and I believe my character strengths will help me achieve this goal. My bottom strengths were the love of learning, self-control, and regulation. I feel these strengths are just as important as my top strengths, and I need to maximize them all in order to become a great leader. My areas of weakness were my lack of self confidence, sensitivity and impatience. To elaborate on my progression, my growth started in the military where I was subjected to a variety of stresses. As a leader, I am very concerned about fairness in the group because according to my past experiences a lack of fairness produces very strong tensions. This is also confirmed by the SCARF model as well when it states that an individual may even go as far as to die for something (Rock, 2008). Because of this I find that it is essential to validate people’s opinions and to be both fair and impartial when dealing with them.…
