Strawberry Dna Purification Lab Report
DNA extraction and purification is an essential tool in understanding the biological basis and significance of a eukaryotic cell. Its role is pivotal to numerous scientific applications ranging from basic science research to applied research. Hence, DNA is found in all living organisms. Fragaria x ananassa, also known as a strawberry has been widely used as one of the many biological models in studying DNA structures due to its accessibility. Strawberries are octoploid which contain large genomes. Nonetheless, the purpose of this experiment is to isolate and extract strawberry DNA; to determine the absorption spectrum of a pure substance in a solution; and to determine the concentration of a solution.
Results
Two different graphs have been generated to represent the values gathered from the quantification of strawberry DNA. For Figure 1., the relationship between the absorbance at 550nm found within each concentration of Potassium Permanganate KMNO4 “methylene blue.” The linearity for the absorbance as a function of concentration for methylene blue at 540 nm in Figure 1 is linearly applicable and its values are within close vicinity to the trend line without any dramatic linear regression. For Figure 2., the absorbency of the ten diluted solutions of methylene blue, which is the independent variable in this experiment concisely falls within -1/+1 standard deviation to the amount of photon absorbed after it passes through the diluted solution, which is the dependent variable in this experiment.
