If the car had no drivetrain it could not drive, and the owner would be forced to push the car everywhere. A car’s drivetrain contains the engine, transmission, and driveshaft. The name Boss 302 was given by Ford because they used a 302 ci engine in the Mustang. The engine placed in the Boss 302 was given a little bit extra. Ford gave the engine a four valve carburetor to help the engine produce 290 horsepower and 290 foot pounds of torque. The transmission is another key component in the drivetrain. The transmission’s main purpose is to shift the gears and keep the engine’s RPMs low. The car’s transmission is powered by the crankshaft of the engine. In 1970 the standard transmission for a Boss 302 was a 4-speed manual, but one could opt out and choose to have an automatic. The last major part of the drivetrain is the driveshaft. Without a driveshaft the car’s wheels would be unable to move. The driveshaft of the car is attached to and controlled by…

To start the car, the driver was required to turn the ignition switch, pull out the choke, and spin a crank. This process is cumbersome, and sometimes dangerous, as the crank handle kicked back at times, resulting in many sprained wrists and broken arms. On top of this, the gas tank was inconveniently placed under the front seat and needed a time consuming process of removing the front seat, unscrewing the cap, and using a ruler or stick to simply measure the remaining fuel, as result of the Model-T having no fuel gauge. Added to this was the problem of the Model-T containing no fuel pump, relying on gravity to run the gas from the tank to the carburetor. As a consequence, Model-Ts often stalled while going uphill, but drivers remedied this problem by backing up. These inconveniences are not present in modern vehicles, which have placed gas tanks in more convenient locations and provide access from outside the vehicle, have fuel pumps, and simply require the driver to turn the ignition switch to turn on the vehicle (for automatic cars). In conclusion, Model-T Fords greatly contrast modern…

A car that has a stick shift transmission has an extra pedal called a clutch, and five different speeds found on the shifter. Driving a five-speed transmission places the most emphasis on being able to control your left foot, and timing your left foot to hit the clutch at the precise time. To get started driving a stick shift the learner should be accompanied by a person who already knows how to operate a stick transmission. The best place to practice and learn how to drive a stick transmission is in a large, open vacant parking lot.The learner should next familiarize themself with the differences between a stick shift transmission and an automatic transmission. In the parking lot with the vehicle's engine turned off, apply the right foot to the brake pedal, and practice getting a feel of the clutch pedal by pushing it in and out with your left foot. Then the learner should view the shift pattern shown on the top of the shift knob. First gear is usually located by pushing the shift lever forward. Then, with the clutch pedal pushed all the way down, move the gearshift lever through the first, second, third, fourth, fifth, and reverse gears a few times and then put the gearshift lever into neutral. Neutral is located in the middle of the shift pattern. Next you are ready to start driving.…

The purpose of this essay is to contrast manual transmission cars with automatic transmission cars. People who drive manual transmission cars know the difference and the advantages of having total control of your car engine; people who drive cars with automatic transmissions do not. What I mean by this is a driver cannot continue to be in a gear for longer such as a manual transmission vehicle can. Automatic cars are setup to change the gears in the transmission automatically without control of the driver.…
