Steve Jobs Leadership Lessons
THE REAL LEADERSHIP 14 LESSONS OF STEVE JOBS – Walter Isaacson

* “The people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world are the ones who do”

* Helped transform 6 industries:

* Personal computing * Animated movies * Music * Phones * Tablet computing * Retail stores * Digital publishing

* “Making an enduring company, he said, was both far harder and more important than making a great product”

1. FOCUS * “Deciding what not to do is as important as deciding what to do” * That´s true for companies, and it´s true for products * Laser like focus

2. SIMPLIFY

* “Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication” * Aim for the simplicity that comes from conquering, rather than merely ignoring, complexity * “To be truly simple, you have to go really deep” * Who is making products more complicated than they should be? Disrupt!

3. TAKE RESPONSIBILITY END TO END

* End to end responsibility for the user experience * Responsibility in all the supply chain. * “Worshipping at the altar of openness or by letting a thousand flowers bloom. Sometimes it´s nice to be in the hands of a control freak”

4. WHEN BEHIND, LEAPFROG

* Little time relishing it ? Continue tuned for what is coming up! * “If we don´t cannibalize ourselves, someone else will”

5. PUT PRODUCTS BEFORE PROFITS

* “My passion has been to build an enduring company where people were motivated to make great products. Everything else was secondary. Sure it was great to make a profit because that was what allowed you to make great products. But the products, not the profits, were the motivation” * It becomes what you talk every time (Passion or profits?) Passion!

6. DON´T BE A SLAVE TO FOCUS GROUPS

* Whether they should do some market research to see what customers wanted. No, Jobs replied… “Because customers don´t know that they want until we´ve shown them” * Henry

T., p. 77), Garvey clearly exhibited this quality. In fact, he came to America with little money, friends or connections, but his strong personality and commanding oratory skills quickly gained him a following (Wormser, R., 2007).…
