Stereotyping In The Case Of Adnan
Stereotyping creeps into interviews quite often. As the case of Adnan, when his mother mentioned that she felt that he was an easy target because he was a Muslim, I would have to agree with her. Throughout the trial, Adnan religion and culture was called into question several times. Detective Ritz and MacGillivary tried to establish that Adnan motive for killing Hae was because he had sacrificed his religion to have a relationship and was tired of lying about it. When Sarah talked with the juror, William Owen, she mentioned that Adnan religion played a part at some point in her decision to find him guilty, but then tried to forget about it. But, when the other jurors were polled, Sarah discovered Adnan religion and culture was the determining factor for how they decided on a guilty verdict. Ms. Guiterrez tried to turn the case from, why was the murder committed, to who committed the murder was it Jay with the help from Mr. S? This strategy was used to eliminate any stereotyping that occurred during the prosecution line of questioning. Christina Guiterrez wanted Adnan to be tried without prejudice, regardless of his religion or culture. …show more content…
So as a recruiter, you have to be cautious of this and try not to let it get in the way during the interview process. It’s easy to find the things that you might have in common with someone you’re interviewing, and it’s easy to find judgement in things that you do not share the same values

There is not one single person in this world who does not fit into a stereotype. Whether it is a mean wealthy person, a popular cheerleader, or a “large and in charge” black woman. While we in the modern century do our best to avoid these preconceived ideas about a human being’s existence, it can sometimes be too hard not to indulge in them. Literature constantly shows examples of these stereotypes. Authors often create flat or stereotypical characters to create relatability between the readers and characters. However, these traits are frequently subtle, as the authors create the character’s persona through indirect characterization. The author can create a character that we already know by just using a simple sentence through the projection of a situation, an action, dialogue, etc. By using indirect characterization, authors can feed into our perception of stereotypes.…

To sum up this paper, Adnan is guilty. He obviously didn’t appreciate others being picked over him, was hiding his feelings about Hae until the truth comes out straight from her, and he had his family and religion to worry about from day one. The case against Adnan Syed that sent him to jail for the rest of his life was frail and full of holes. On January 13, 1999, Hae Min Lee was murdered at 2:36 PM. The prime witness for the case was a drug dealer, Jay. He said that Adnan was the one who murdered Hae. Adnan was just a 17-year-old kid. He was very well liked and he was not capable of murdering Hae. Adnan’s case was clearly mismanaged because if you look at all the facts, you would find inexplicable gaps in the case against him. After I listened to twelve podcasts about this case for several weeks, I was instantly suspicious of Jay. When I first heard about Jay, I learned that he was a drug dealer and most of the people he knew thought that he often acted strangely. Some people…

In the following paragraphs I will compare the profile of my interviewee and I in contrast it to the results of the Myers Briggs test along with other questions to see how we compare. My interviewee was my wife of similar age, actually a couple of years my younger as we are in our 40’s. Backgrounds are different with my wife coming from a middle class white family in the far southern area of Indiana. My upbringing was of a military family with my Father being from central Indiana and my mother coming from Japan, this difference has interestingly shaped my views a little bit differently from hers, but on the same side of things as we have become older shaped a truly similar point of view on ourselves, family, and society.…

A representativeness heuristic is when an individual judges a situation based on a stereotype rather than on actual probability. An example of a representative heuristic that I have experienced from my own life experiences happened when I was playing basketball ball with some friends. While we were playing one of my female friends came and asked if she could play basketball with us. Because she was a female me and my friends wouldn’t let her play because we thought girls weren’t as good at sports as boys, and she wouldn’t be able to keep up, and paly as well as us.…

Society can be broken up into many groups by gender, race, or even traits. The world is made up of males and females, whites and blacks, and liberals and conservatives, all with a particular way of life. People are stereotyping others all the time without even noticing it, because of race or color. This trend in human thought is called stereotyping. A stereotype can be anything from women being considered better drivers or labeling French people as rude, but one thing that is in every stereotype is the designation of a group as a whole. Stereotypes are judgments based upon a person’s appearance or action; it can also be an over exaggerated view on a person. A stereotype can be also interpreted as a shortcut…

Interviewer often decide and judge from candidate’s reaction after they ask questions. But people are not good at using intuition to predict behavior (Aamodt, 2008).
