Every single character in the “Office Space” movie depicts various stereotypes you can find in the workplace. These characters are both simplified and exaggerated as we can see in the opening scene with Peter Gibbons, a businessman, stuck in the morning traffic going to work. He looks unhappy and depressed. He is frustrated as he is barely driving and as this old guy walking on the side walk is even going faster than him. He tries to escape from the traffic as he sees the other lane moving faster. He switches lanes but as soon as he switches the traffic stops and the cars start moving to the other lane. In the opening scene, we are also facing another stereotyped character stuck in the traffic whose name is Michael. He is a white nerdy looking …show more content…
Initech does not operate in an ethical manner when it comes to communicate with the workers. They never know what is going on in the company, why the events are happening, and how the decisions are made. There is an obvious lack of communication. Also, Initech makes the decisions without the knowledge of their employees. For example, when the Bobs consultants find out that Milton has been laid off 5 years ago but no one has ever told him, and he still thinks he is employed because he still gets paid due to a malfunction in the payroll. The consultants fix this issue so Milton doesn’t get paid anymore, but he still doesn’t know that he has been laid off long time ago. In fact, nobody told him, and instead of telling him, Lumbergh will let him put de two and two together, and will make him move to the storage room. One of the bobs even states “We always like to avoid confrontation whenever possible.” The way Initech fires his employees is definitely unethical. Moreover, there is an evident lack of disclosure as we can see with some employees being paranoid about the fear of being fired, especially Tom. The information doesn’t navigate thru the company from the upper management to the lower

I choose to analyze the movie Office Space. My analysis focuses on the lack of motivation Peter has for his job as well as analyzing the values he takes into consideration when making decisions. I will be using the scene where Peter is interviewed by the Bobs as a focal point for my analysis. I will be performing this analysis by using one concept and two theories which are the psychological contract, Hackman & Oldham Job Characteristics Theory, and Kohlberg’s theory. Peter’s perspective on what…

The organization shown in the movie (INITECH) was clearly a case of multicultural environment comprised several identities, nationalities and different religions. (E.g. Samir is an Arab Muslim) In the light of contractual relationship among employees as well as employees with their organization, we have observed several types of contracts such as psychological contract (peter with himself which after the hypnotism has been changed significantly during the story), the implicit contract between Lumbergh…

Statement: Office Space displays the psychological torment and stress that people endure in their repetitious work routines and how they react to each predicament they encounter. Job security for much of society’s employees has become an increasingly large trepidation for those self-thought to be in an uncontrollable situation. Also, the working man’s perspective has the ability to be swayed for better or worse while suppressing years of frustration associated with work. The movie Office Space (1999)…

Office Space I have often heard the movie Office Space called funny, albeit an exaggeration of the bureaucracy, particularly in America. While I have to agree that it is quite funny, I wouldn’t know what to make of it as a parody of the American bureaucracy. Though yes, the characteristics of Weber’s bureaucracy has been portrayed, along with Marx’s alienation. Most of what I’ve heard and read about why office space is a must watch film is because people can actually relate to the day-to-day agony…

Sean La Torre The movie Office Space shows a explicit meaning since it is a movie about a guy who can’t stand his work, and has nothing pushing or giving the initiative to even do his work. He then convinces two of his fellow workers who also don’t enjoy their work, to scam their company for money using a computer virus.
