Stereotypes: Article Analysis

Research indicated in this article was influenced by a national survey that questioned stereotypes. The national survey that was used is this article was random sample. It was given to adolescents and gave them a case describing the victim and the defendant. They had to answer whether this individual should get the sentence of life in prison or capital punishment. Our society holds beliefs which we call stereotypes. Stereotypes can be used against another race that reinforces bad gratitude in capital cases that can change someone’s life. The interpretation that we received from this article is that stereotypes are one of the causes that reflect individuals to sentence another human being to capital punishment. Our perspectives can come into play with the interpretation of our cultural beliefs that one race commits more crimes. Various individuals in our society have the ideal image of racial bias without even seeing the person as an individual. We may see someone walking down a street tall, African American, male and in black clothes. Our first reaction is like lock our doors he’s a criminal, when he could be the most innocents individual. As a researcher we can link methods to other articles that reflect this topic. Labeling theory plays a major role in our society, it affects the way we see other human beings in our society. As research claims race does give a defendant a higher punishment in a case and has shown a 25% higher indication of capital punishment. Racial bias in our court system can be used against an ongoing case due to the possibility it’s unconstitutional and can be against the amendments of receiving a free trail and various other
