Stephen Hawking Accomplishments

Stephen Hawking started his studies at Cambridge University. He began to study cosmology but later then realized that was not the path he wanted to go down. Eventually he became a professor of theoretical physics. By the age of 21, Hawking contracted ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis), a neurological disease that is incurable and very fatal. ALS eats your nervous system very slowly. From then until now, Hawking has defied this disease and is still alive to this day. Hawking has a family, and three grandchildren. In the first article, it states “For the first time, Stephen Hawking turns his gaze inward for a revealing look at his own life and intellectual evolution”(Harmon). Life may be different physically for him but he is still full of life.
He has also won the Albert Einstein medal. Stephen Hawking was awarded Order of the British Empire by Queen Elizabeth the II in person.” If Stephen hawking was not the best, why would he get so much recognition? All of the accomplishments that he has made was made through hard work and dedication. Hawking created a computer so that he could communicate with people and continue to be somewhat independent. Hawking states in a lecture he gave, “ A tablet computer mounted on the arm of my wheelchair is powered by my wheelchair batteries, although the tablet's internal battery will keep the computer running if necessary.” Having something to allow him to still converse and work in society is very beneficial for this physicist. Hawking says, “I keep looking into new assistive technologies, and I have experimented with eye tracking and brain controlled interfaces to communicate with my computer. However although they work well for other people, I still find my cheek operated switch easier and less fatiguing to use.” His mind works so indifferently while he comes up with his theories.
