Stephen Colbert Video Analysis
After watching the Stephen Colbert videos at least for me I got to see what his point was. It is absolutely clear what he wants us, the viewers, to see which is that the jobs that the immigrant farm workers held are not an easy task. At the beginning he thought it would be something easy to do, but after he had a day of real labor he knew he was wrong.
His use of comedy was definitely informative. Not only was he making me laugh, but also it made me pay more attention to what he was saying. He joked on everything he said or did, but he was providing the viewers with information on the topic. That is a smart way of doing it because it attracts more people to watch his videos and at the same time to realize the situation that the immigrants

The effect that was made in the students facing these problems in their schools was very terrifying, some of them were in a point of being embarrassed of their heritage. They were embarrassed of being Mexican Americans, and this was something that had to be changed. The rise up of the Chicano students to demand their district officials for equal education rights in their school, was a movement that made the Chicano voice strong not only at East LA but all over the country. This is one point everyone should be able to understand, the video gives us the struggles Mexican Americans were facing at the time, and how they became together to overcome this issue is an example of unity something that we need to do now a days to become stronger and make our voices heard as a…

Henry Payne's cartoon "For Illegal Immigrants by Illegal Immigrants" shows us the Irony of Donald Trump wanting to build a Wall/ Fence, to keep illegal immigrants out of the united states. Payne's cartoon is ironic because Trump wants to get rid of immigrants but yet immigrants are the ones that do the dirty jobs other legal people don’t want to do. Trump wants illegal immigrants to build the very wall that will keep the out of a country that offers liberty and many opportunities for all kinds of people. Payne’s cartoon has bias against the fact that Donald Trump Wants to build a wall to keep immigrants out of the United States. Payne’s cartoon will help my paper because it tells people that are in favor of the wall being built that without…

The Sarah Bartmaan video today had some very shocking mistreatment of African Americans. I don’t understand how Europeans could justify their actions of treating another human being like that. Also to know that people still went to see her pickled remains for almost a century after her death showed that it was more than one person that contributed to this. People thought that African Americans were a different species and weren’t even human. We can also see this in our society today. I grew up outside the Bronx, and my school was mainly comprised of African American and Hispanic people. My cousins that lived just outside the city in the suburbs, went schools were the population was 90% white. It is almost like our races still keep us separate…

Since the time of the woman 's suffrage movement, many articles and essays have reached newspapers and magazines across the country. Several of these essays were written to inform people, but others were created to strictly entertain the audience. Rush Limbaugh 's essay, "The Latest from the Feminist Front," is an essay created to entertain and voice only his opinion. The elements of writing used to create a credible and valid argument can be taken out of context. Rush Limbaugh uses style, form, and claims to make his argument but is not effective in making his argument valid.…

Even though we cannot say the Latino immigrants in the videos are very well-education, at least, they did not engage into any crime or simply receive the welfare from the government without getting a job. Yet, an unfairly unfavorable light is always lightening behind each of their hard-work and dream. The video demonstrates the fact that many of the Latino immigrants is willing to accept the new culture and contribute to the United States, they are not a group of “illegal aliens” who simply passes over the border to exploit the education or health welfare of the American. They show respect to the core…

In Stephen Colbert’s book, America Again, Re-Becoming the Greatness We Never Weren’t, he talks about a wide range of problems in American society. They range from jobs to energy to healthcare, and of course, they are all written in a satirical sense. In the second chapter, Colbert and his writers talk about jobs in America. They discuss the problem of jobs being shipped overseas to countries like India and China and Colbert puts forth his “solutions” to the problems, which mostly include setting up sweatshops in America. He also talks about job interviews and how to be successful at them. Colbert and his staff of writers use a wide range of comic techniques in the book as a whole and in the chapter on jobs to satirize the American culture and government.…

Yes, the video was very informative. What stood out to me was that the people with mental issues aren't getting the same care as others. Especially the people that deal with mental health in jails which make it worse because they're surrounded by four walls all day without no one to talk to or do…

For instance when Edsall talks about how cheap immigrants work is found in labor extensive jobs. Which is good for the business owner, but it makes more competition for the laborer. The thing that really puts the point out there is Edsall references from a few well known people and their ideas about immigration. One of the people edsall reverences is “Hillary clinton” which Some people believe, but her reference does nothing for me it does not help his case on how immigration does not hurt our country. When he brings in the ideas of “Donald Trump” ; however, There are a few things he says that are very convincing on the downfalls of immigration and why we should tighten up or tolerance for immigration. Trump says,”I want good people to come here from all over the world, but I want them to do so legally” (Edsall 40 ). That is very convincing for me. Edsall also uses statistics that help him show what all americans think about this topic and he does so very well. For instance he says “35% of all voters believe immigrants burden our country”(Edsall 13). Edsall does a good job explaining that immigration is not a big deal in some areas and a big deal in others. For example it is good for the farmer to hire the mexicans because they work for pennies on the dollar where us americans will not work that cheap. On the flip side to this though it does hurt the guy who wants a job but will not work as…

Overall I like the show it’s funny, and serious at the same time. The fact that they can bring such a serious topic to the table and still make an interesting show at the end of the day is very interesting. I would give it 2 thumbs up if my vote mattered. Another very interesting thing is that while they are reeling in these other ethnic groups there exposing the truth to them at the same time. So now people are finally starting to realize that everything is not as it seems, so now there helping fight for what’s right.…

In an article ¨On immigration, Bernie Sanders is Correct¨ by Daniel Costa introduces us Bernie Sanders a U.S. senator running for president. Costa expresses sanders is choosing the right path to legalize all foreign families. Bernie recognizes there is something fundamentally wrong in our current society. Lately we have seen racism, wages, and immigration takes over our world. Immigration has been a center to all of our attention in our current economy, followed by racism, and the raise of the minimum wage. Daily we have many undocumented children, families, cross the border, but are then shipped back off to their country. Undocumented people come to live the American dream, they come to seek a better opportunity to escape poverty in their…

This is one of the quotes that has made Donald Trump gain so much attention and fame in the last two months. Why? Because he is stereotyping the Latin American race. Unfortunately, Mr. Trump is not the only person in the world to stereotype against the Latin American race. Many people around the world may assume that the Latin American race is all about the spicy food, the distinct mariachi music, and the clothes, and the language. In the United States, the stereotype that many people have against us have changed over time. Now, it’s that we only work as carpenters, lawn mowers, restaurants, and any other type of leftover job that other people do not want; and we all know what Donald Trump’s stereotypes of Latin Americans are: drug dealers,…

For example, in his announcement, Sessions said, “DACA denied jobs for hundreds of thousands of Americans by allowing those same illegal aliens to take those jobs.” However, journalists working for Politifact looked into this claim and they asked five experts to help explain if this claim was true or false. What they found was that DACA workers represent an incredibly small amount of the 160-million labor force, about a quarter of one percent. They also found that this idea of immigrants ‘taking’…

The statement that made had me thinking the most was his view on sarcasm in the classroom. I’m a sarcastic person and although I may have good intentions with my sarcasm I never thought about how it could feel to a student in the classroom. He said that sarcasm creates a victim whether it’s a normal student and especially a learning disabled student. He used the example of when someone answers slowly and you make a sly remark everyone may have a good laugh about it, but the person who was singled out will be thinking about that the rest of the day. This was a perspective that I was not conscious of because I don’t get embarrassed. The thought never occurred to me that people might take my sarcasm personally and this would result in a worse learning environment, less rapport with students, and lowering the confidence of one of my students. Lavoie hit home with me on that one instead of thinking about getting some laughs I should be concerned with how my students are going to feel if they are singled out. Fostering an environment of openness and caring will help much more then singling people out when you want to act funny.…
