Stem Cell Persuasive Speech
The world we live in today is an era of constant discovery. Yet, along with these discoveries comes great dispute. Society has said and written many things about stem cell research, nevertheless, there are a number of biologic inaccuracies that generate a tough decision for countless people. The difficulty and drama regarding these cells has increased and become a big political debate, weather anindividual is pro life or pro choice. Is it even promising for us to protect the "purity of life" and still be able to use these cells to help those living among us?
Granting we are able to experiment on human tissue, but we should not be experimenting on human beings. The researcher must cut open the embryo in order to acquire his or her stem cell. Are there other approaches we could use as …show more content…
There have even been reports of bone marrow stem cells altering into liver cells, skin cells into heart cells, and of cord blood possibly generating neural cells.
It is utterly unethical to kill a living human embryo in order to obtain an embryonic stem cell. Stem cells from umbilical cords and induced pluripotent stem cells have shown that we

don’t have to kill human embryos in order to treat diseases. Studies on adult stem cells and stem cells from umbilical cords have now been used to treat those who are suffering from a wide range of illnesses. These treatments are entirely life-sustaining since they do not require human beings to be killed in hope of treating others.
Research has furthermore established that adult stem cells function more efficiently and more carefully than embryonic stem cells! Adult stem cells are able to be removed from the patient, and then re-injected, thus eliminating immune rejection, which has been problematic when using embryonic stem cells.     Embryos are essentially microscopic human beings. Regardless of what good they may provide to the field of medicine, the ethical controversies surrounding embryonic stem cell research are profound. Stem cells, the cells used by the human body to replenish damaged tissue, are found in both embryonic and adult form. At the adult level, stem cells can be extracted from bone marrow, but the real ethical debate arises when embryonic stem cells are introduced. “Pluripotent” embryonic stem cells are among the only type that can form any of over 200 cell types, making it the most useful and versatile. These cells are isolated from the inner cell mass of the embryo when extracted, and subsequently terminates the embryo itself, which is technically manslaughter. However, it must also be noted that embryonic stem cell research can provide effective treatments and even cures for those in need of organ transplants and other irremediable predicaments. Therefore, it is safe to say, from a utilitarian perspective, that the essential “death” of one embryo can save the lives of many, and with Jeremy Bentham’s phrase “the greatest good for the greatest number”; I believe that embryonic stem cell research is ethical.…
