PROJECT STATUS REPORT

For this project I shall be conducting an analysis for three different mutual funds. Over the course of this observation I shall be tracking the price per share values of three different mutual fund firms weekly. Many different factors will come into play to predict which firm will perform the best and analysis will be done for this. Characteristics such as sales load, operating fees, minimum balances and penalty fees will be analyzed for each firm. I will be picking 3 different firms that each performs differently and with contrasting price per share values in order for the observations to be diversified. The firms I will be observing are the ProFunds Biotechnology UltraSector Inv (BIPIX), Van Eck Intl Investors Gold C (IIGCX) and Fidelity Freedom 2030 (FFFEX). These firms were chosen based on their return performance and will be tracked weekly. I will conduct analysis using sample theoretical investments and I will also do a cash flow analysis to keep track of the investments. The tracked price per share values are shown below :

ProFunds Biotechnology UltraSector Inv (BIPIX) | Sept 13 2012 | 96.03 | Sept 20 2012 | 100.78 | Sept 27 2012 | 100.22 | Oct 4 2012 | 105.26 | Oct 11 2012 | 100.69 | Van Eck Intl Investors Gold C (IIGCX) | Sept 13 2012 | 18.24 | Sept 20 2012 | 18.94 | Sept 27 2012 | 18.72 | Oct 4 2012 | 18.97 | Oct 11 2012 | 18.35 | Fidelity Freedom 2030 (FFFEX) | Sept 13 2012 | 14.57 | Sept 20 2012 | 14.54 | Sept 27 2012 | 14.47 | Oct 4 2012 | 14.57 | Oct 11 2012 | 14.40

Merger between BA and Iberia tend to be horizontal integration. Horizontal integration occurs when a firm is being taken over by, or merged with, another firm which is in the same industry and in the same stage of production as the merged firm, e.g.BA and Iberia. In this case both the companies are in the same stage of production and also in the same industry (i.e. airlines industry). The goal of horizontal integration is to consolidate like companies and monopolize an industry. Besides, they can also gain Economic of Scale when doing such strategies. Put another way, they can reduce average cost of production in the long run. The US has the largest and most technologically powerful economy in the world, with a per capita GDP of $49,800. In this market-oriented economy, private individuals and business firms make most of the decisions, and the federal and state governments buy needed goods and services predominantly in the private marketplace. US business firms enjoy greater flexibility than their counterparts in Western Europe and Japan in decisions to expand capital plant, to lay off surplus workers, and to develop new products. At the same time, they face higher barriers to enter their rivals' home markets than foreign firms face entering US markets. US firms are at or near the forefront in technological advances, especially in computers and in medical, aerospace, and military equipment; their advantage has narrowed since the end of World War II. The onrush of technology largely explains the gradual development of a "two-tier labor market" in which those at the bottom lack the education and the professional/technical skills of those at the top and, more and more, fail to get comparable pay raises, health insurance coverage, and other benefits. Since 1975, practically all the gains in household income have gone to the top 20% of households. Since 1996, dividends and capital gains have grown faster than wages or any other category of after-tax income. Imported oil accounts for nearly 55% of US consumption. Crude oil prices doubled between 2001 and 2006, the year home prices peaked; higher gasoline prices ate into consumers' budgets and many individuals fell behind in their mortgage payments. Oil prices climbed another 50% between 2006 and 2008, and bank foreclosures more than doubled in the same period. In addition to dampening the housing market, soaring oil prices caused a drop in the value of the dollar and a deterioration in the US merchandise trade deficit, which peaked at $840 billion in 2008. The sub-prime mortgage…

China to put duties on US chicken imports The article centers around anti-dumping tariffs on United States chicken imports. The duties were introduced by China, which claims that American poultry firms are exporting the meat at unfairly low prices. The effects are growing trade disputes and accuses between the two countries. Tariffs can be explained as a tax levied on imported goods. Tariffs are a form of protectionism. Tariffs can be ad valorem (percentage of the value of the good that is being imported) or specific (tax based on a measurable unit as tonnes ). Protectionism is any form of action taken by a country to decrease the ratio of domestic goods to imported goods. The aim of protectionism is to make domestic goods more competitive.…

The Bank of England (BoE) finds itself at a crossroads in terms of its record low interest rate that stands as an attempt to spur Aggregate Demand (AD), The overall demand for all products in an economy at any given price level, in spite of an inflation rate of 2.7% that is above the target rate of 2%. BoE recognizes that in a period of extended economic contraction it is important to spur AD as any decrease in AD results in a loss of real output (RGDP). BoE only has the ability to do this using monetary policy and adjusting the interest rate to incentivize people to spend. A low interest rate makes it borrowed money more accessible and increases AD. On the other hand, BoE’s low interest rate will not do anything to mitigate inflation and bring it back to the target rate of 2%. BoE has prioritized increasing their potential output (Yeq1 -> Yeq2) to pull them out of a stubbornly unshakable recession over reaching their target rate of inflation. BoE’s strategy is shown in the graph below.…

    Today Economy

Today economy has not been stable for example for the last few years we have all been in a position where we have to watch how we spend more than we used to. A lot of changes have happened since the economy went down more people went bankrupt, broke, and some even were forced into becoming homeless. It is sad to see that so many people have been affect by the economy’s status. Lucky for me and my family we have been able to make it work so far and even though we watch how we spend and all it’s still hard. Now for me personally it has affected me because when I was looking for a new job there was more competition with people who were much older than me. And because the economy is the way that it is more people are looking for jobs to make some sort of pay to get by in their daily life. Im lucky that my parents can still provide for me but with the money I receive I will put half into the bank and I will then keep the other half, to spend it on things I need so that my parents don’t have to buy it for me. I still receive my pay every two weeks so I do have somewhat of a set pay, which is good for me because I know that I am getting some sort of income. I honestly don’t know what will happen next all I do know is that we can hope for the best. What I want to happen is for us to stop spending money on things we don’t need to, and just have our economy go back up so that people can keep their lives that they have, and for those who can improve their life. I also feel that whenever something goes down it must go up and vice versa. I hope things do improve soon which I think they will in the near future. But until then all we can do is hope for the best and wait for the day that the economy goes up. Some people feel that once the elections are over the president will take more control and try to fix things a bit faster. Others tend to argue that we will be stuck in this boat because the president won’t do anything. But overall majority the…
