Statement Of Purpose: Marching Band In High School
Looking back at my high school career, the connections that I have made with peers through marching band prove to be unparamounted. Continuing to participate in marching band at Michigan would allow me to make new friends and connections with people far more diverse than the student body at my school, thus exposing me to new ideas. The time commitment is grand, but this activity has and will continue to advance my skills as a musician, a leader, and make me a more well-rounded person. After four years of dedication, I am interested in pursuing my favorite fall activity at the college level.

Each member will be at the school getting in shape, learning how to march, and practicing music for weeks, working to perfect an 8-minute show to perform in front of thousands of people. As a member of the Clear Falls High School band, I…

the band to attention and to march off the football field, I knew the marching season for the Mead High School Marching Band was coming to an end after another year. I remember feeling jittery and excited despite the fact that I was composed before our eight minute marching show began. I hopped off of my podium, used my shaky hands to disassemble the platform, and exited the field to catch up with the band. Our performance at the St Vrain School District Band Night marked the end to my high school…

away I am sad that my high school days are almost to a close. Band is going to be a major aspect of high school that I am going to miss immensely. For the past seven years I have been a member of the Hannibal Bands. I started out on clarinet but I later picked up the saxophone on the way. Even though I only spent three years in jazz band, I still enjoyed playing in the concerts and our trips to UMSL. However, it is concert band that I am going to miss the most. Concert band has always been my favorite…

The school activity that I have been most involved in would have to be Marching Band. I’ve done this activity for all 4 years of high school. I’ve gotten the opportunity to be the low brass captain for 3 of those 4 years. That leadership position has taught me how to be responsible for a whole section of the band. Its taught me how to teach others and be comfortable while doing it. At first it was difficult because I was new to playing baritone and the growth that I saw in myself I wanted to to give…

Tripp has been a great student of mine and it has been my pleasure of being able to teach him. He has some great qualities of a human being and qualities that you would love to see in a leader. Tripp’s hard work and his dedication to music helped him as he joined band and made awesome strides to be on the best percussionist…

experiences I have gone through is called the Lebanon High School Marching Band. I am certain that I wouldn’t be who I am today if it weren’t for marching band. Before coming to high school I already had leadership qualities, but band helped bring all those great qualities together and helped me get past my two major flaws: my lack of self-confidence and the fact that I was probably one of the shyest people you would EVER meet. When I joined marching band, I spent most of my waking hours sweating and suffering…
