The National Health Service was founded on the 5th July 1948. Winston Churchill was the prime minister at the time .The government decided to commission a report, addressing the ways in which Britain should be rebuilt after the Second World War had ended. The Beveridge report of 1942 (written by William Beveridge) identified five main points that needed to be addressed. These were Want (addressed poverty) disease (the lack of healthcare) ignorance (no education) squalor (represented the lack of housing) and idleness (unemployment). A Lot of politicians were confident that Winston Churchill would lead the conservatives to success in the general election. However this was not the case, clement Attlee of the labour party introduced all the courses of action needed that were stated in the Beveridge report. This is how the birth of the NHS occurred. There was to be many benefits slowly introduced. Houses were rebuilt, children went to secondary education and Britain was generally happy that someone was taking control.…

There are many aspects of health care that intrigue me. I’ve always wanted to be a nurse; unfortunately it is very difficult to get into the program. However, if I ever go back to do that, I would want to either do labor and delivery or pediatrics. I have had the privilege of witnessing the birth of one of my nieces and it was the most amazing experience. To be a nurse and being a part of that on a daily basis would be awesome. I also have an extra soft spot for children, which is why pediatrics would also be of interest to me. Life threatening diseases do not only affect adults. I feel that being able to help children would only be helping our future.…

The reason I chose a career in nursing, is simply because I love caring for people. I am interested in running for the position of Secretary of the National Honor Society so that I can assist the President and Vice President in making our school a better place. We, as members of this prestigious group, have the duty to involve Saucon Valley as a whole in order to do community service for the benefit of all. As Secretary, I plan to amp up the school spirit here at Saucon so that every individual student feels included and motivated to better our school and our community. For example, the blood drive that NHS hosts every year can become a schoolwide effort with a little more enthusiasm. In previous years, many underclassmen ignore the blood drive completely because of their age and thus, their inability to donate blood. But if we were to make the event more “fun” as a whole, we could encourage students to get the word out to their parents, neighbors, or friends to get involved and donate their blood to those who need it. And by “fun”, I imply decorations throughout the school, exaggerated morning announcements, offers of food, anything that will get the student body excited to share their blood!…

I observed different kinds of childbirths and pregnancies. One particular birth stood out to me where the lady was homeless after suffering from domestic abuse. I was able to see the empathetic and professional way midwives have to deal with those situations. By keeping calm I was able to communicate with the women and calculate the dynamics of the situation, doing simple jobs like offering water and assisting the midwives with medicines. In a place that was an unfamiliar environment for me I feel I was able to adapt and fit well into the team. Another circumstance where I showed the NHS values was whilst volunteering in Sri Lanka, working with underprivileged children and teenagers teaching them dance, arts, and crafts. At times it was difficult to communicate with them as they spoke little English, however, through the use of hand signals and my own body language I built relationships with them that I will never forget. I feel this demonstrates by ability to make strong connections with a wide range of people which will help when supporting the mothers. I also went on World Challenge, trekking across Iceland, which I funded myself. My role within the team was to lead them on trails through the mountains, where I was able to express my good sense of leadership. All these experiences have strengthened my resolve to become a…

Two types of goals exist: official goals and operational goals. Official goals are clear statements to define the purpose of the organization. These can be expressed as public statements or mission statements and strive to establish credibility, provide legitimacy and justify action of the organization. Operational goals reflect the actual intention of an organization, by implementing short-term goals to achieve the long-term official goals. These goals will provide specific actions intended to achieve the organization’s purpose (Meinhard, n.d). Let’s use the US public health system as an example.…

As a student wanting to be a part of the NHS program, it is essential that I demonstrate the core values. Individually, I exemplify the characteristics of a leader. I have played club volleyball for 5 years, currently going on my 6th year, and I have been captain for the previous 4 years, despite moving to a new club. Many people are unaware of the pressure given to a team captain. A captain is constantly looked up to as an example and exhibits leadership traits. As a captain, it is my responsibility to coordinate my teammates’ role and constantly motivate and encourage. I want the best outcome for my team and it is my duty to help them achieve greatness. In order to do so, I treat my team with respect and and recognize the contributions of…
