Statement Of Purpose: Boiler Vet Camp
There are many things that I want to get out of attending Boiler Vet Camp. In general, I just want to get more information about the veterinary medical profession. I have an idea of what it takes to become a veterinarian or veterinary technician, just through the information I received at 4-H Roundup. However, I would like to learn more about what it takes to become a veterinarian or veterinarian technician. From everything to the dorm room, the food, and the vet school, I am hopeful that I will get a genuine experience of what college life is like for a veterinary medical student through attending Boiler Vet Camp. I would like to experience what it's like to be a veterinarian through hands-on activities and demonstrations. Another thing I

As I am an active member of the Seneca East FFA chapter, I strive to live and work by the National FFA Organization’s motto: “Living to do, doing to learn, earning to live, living to serve.” I interpret this motto simply: with every new project, you must accomplish it with a purpose. When I engage in a community service project, I have the mindset to put my whole heart in it, making the most out of the experience. Through the values and ethics I have attained through FFA, I will continue to serve my community and world with my whole heart throughout my life. If I were selected to receive the Samsung American Legion Scholarship, I would use the money to further my education focusing in the subject of Agriculture. This scholarship would inspire…

Last summer, I endeavored a life changing experience. American Legion Buckeye Boys State is a leadership program. It is the best Boys State program in the nation. On top of this, it is among the top programs for leadership, growth, and is a meeting of the greatest minds of Ohio, and by proxy, of the nation. But it’s so much more than that. From Day One, the minute you step off the bus, it instantly becomes an incredible experience. Everyone, people who have never even met before, are shaking everyone else’s hands, introducing themselves, and campaigning for positions before anyone has even dropped their luggage off. It was breathtaking, truly, and it made me realize that I too had to step up. Naturally, I did just that. I started meeting people,…

Veterinary schools want to see that you have experience in the field. The veterinary schools look to see if their applicants have put time into their interested career. The schools want to see that you have shadowed veterinarians, completed internships at veterinary offices, and volunteer with animals. These actions show a veterinary school that you know what the job will be like, and that you’re sure this is the profession for you. The American Veterinary Medical Association states that “For example, volunteering at shelters or rescues can provide animal handling experience that will help make you a better candidate.”(avma.org). All this experience shows a veterinary school that you are serious about your career, but it also allows the applicant to begin networking which will open up more opportunities as…

Throughout the open house I was tremendously excited to be in attendance. While there, my father and I had the opportunity to meet the head leader for Animal Science. Her name was Ms. Kishaa James and she was one of the sweetest lady that I had met. She informed me of a program called the research apprentice program, RAP for short. I learned that the program was for rising juniors and seniors who were interested in anything to do with agriculture. The program would take place on the campus of North Carolina A& T in Greensboro for four weeks. After I learned everything about the program; and I was aware of the requirements, I decided to get a head start.…

Locally in Minnesota a resource that is available to veterans is Veteran Resilience Project (VRP). VRP works with veterans to turn their trauma they have been through into growth (Project, 2016). Through this resource veterans are offered 12 free sessions of EMDR (Project, 2016). This program offers 100% confidentiality to their patients, realizing that PTSD is very serious and life changing for the veterans, which they want to acknowledge and not take away from them. In knowing that this is very serious the people of VRP respect each veteran and treat them as equals instead of “one of them”, referring to them as being a victim of PTSD. They believe in equality and dignity of a person at VRP. This program also will use their existing veterans…

The U. S. Department of Veterans Affairs is responsible for providing a broad spectrum of healthcare services to war veterans, ranging from medical to psychological services. The Department of Veterans Affairs or the VA was formerly established in 1930 after Congress authorized the President to “consolidate and coordinate Government activities affecting war veterans”. Since that time “the VA health care system has grown from 54 hospitals in 1930, to include 152 hospitals; 800 community based outpatient clinics; 126 nursing home care units; and 35 domiciliaries”. Just as the number of VA health care system locations has grown so has its responsibilities and benefits to war veterans over the past decades. Most notably, The World War II GI Bill, which was signed into law on June 22, 1944, surpassing the Homestead Act of 1862. In Jeff Miller’s eyes, “the willingness of America’s veterans to sacrifice for our country has earned them our lasting gratitude.” I agree with Jeff and it is my firm belief that the Veteran Affairs (VA) should extend their support services to veterans and this service should be provided forever. I believe this because veterans have done more than enough to deserve this care, also they can still be active in the work force in some way. Also, currently not enough care is given to veterans.…
