Statement Of MARIHE Program
Working in higher education is a part of my life that I will never regret. In fact, I see myself working in the academe for the rest of my life. One of the most important components of higher education is research, and having had the opportunity to work as research staff in universities gave me a great opportunity to be immersed in the valuable and complex role of research in higher education. It opened my mind about difficulties and opportunities in doing research among higher education faculty members, as well as the research productivity among institutions. From being a passive grants management secretariat, I have taken an active role in research management and mentorship by collaborating with more than 20 undergraduate and graduate students …show more content…
I want to understand how other institutions or countries are able to maintain excellence and apply this learning in the Philippines by strengthening research capability and productivity to move beyond the mere production of research for compliance sake. I want the researches produced by students and faculty members reach a wider scope and scholarship as these will be the indicators that they had impact to the community. This is what motivates me to participate in the MARIHE programme.
Upon completing this master course, I will be able to increase the breadth and depth of my understanding of research in higher education. This understanding will not only remain in my personal Curriculum Vitae but it will be applied in strengthening the University of the Cordilleras Research & Development Center and other HEIs in the region. I will apply what I learned in the MARIHE programme through policy-making and increasing of collaborative efforts with faculty

For the past 8 years, I have conducted interdisciplinary researches, and many of which focus on education. My experiences in managing research centers in various higher education institutions and my teaching experience in a university also give me advantage since I have the first hand information how universities in the Philippines put research and innovation to play. For instance, I was instrumental in the creation of the research agenda of the University of the Cordilleras because I helped in spearheading the formulation of the agenda and research programs for the whole university as well as the different Colleges.
