Starr county memorial hospital has been operating since 1975 and through the years has been able to expand and continues to grow. "Our hospital is dedicated to expanding out medical services to include the latest technology and medical procedures available to allow us to meet the healthcare needs of the community." It strives to serve the needs and care for the people of Starr county. SCMH consists of 48 beds total and has a 24-hour emergency department. The hospital has doctors coming from all over the world like India, Pakistan, Veracruz, and South America. Some doctors go away to get their degrees and have come back to serve the community at
