Star River Electronics Ltd. On July 5, 2001, Adeline Koh, the newly introduced CEO of Star River Electronics Ltd., was assigned to make important financial decisions that would affect the firms’ financial future. Earlier in the week, Star River’s President and former CEO abruptly resigned, admit financial allegations. On the first day of her new job, Koh, met with her assistant to begin discussing the most pressing issues for the firm. Star Rivers Electronics was originally a joint venture between two companies, Starlight Electronics Ltd., and New Era Partners. Starlight was a United Kingdom firm and New Era Partners was based in Asia, respectively. Star Rivers, manufacturing in Singapore, was predominately a high quality CD-ROM supplier to major software companies. Thanks in large parts do to optical and multimedia products, rapid growth accumulated in the CD-ROM industry during the mid-1990’s. This major boom led to and over supply of manufacturers, resulting in a large decrease in prices. Although prices were slashed more than 40%, Star Electronics survived, growing at a robust rate the past two years. However, with due to price competition, as well as the introduction of digital video discs (DVDs), unit prices on CD-ROM’s started to fall because of the DVDs. With the future of the CD-ROM industry in major flux, Star River began to experiment with the establishment of DVDs, even though it accounted for less than 5% of sales ending the 2001 fiscal year. After following a review of Star River Electronics’ ratio analysis, I found that there is some inventory problems within that needs to be dealt with immediately. It seems that current inventory being created by Star Rivers Electronics is becoming outdated before it even is put on their shelves and sold to other firms.     When reviewing the ratio calculations, it is apparent that the company’s likelihood of failing financially in the next 12 months is low. This is because it is apparent that the short-term debt paying ratios are down from the previous years. For example, the current ratio has decreased from the preceding year concluding that the current assets can cover the current liabilities successfully. Also looking at days to collect receivables is also lowered which presents that it takes less days for the company to collect their receivables implying that the monies owed to them are coming in more quickly.     Over the past 30 years the cost of Electronics has steadily decreased. The cost of electronic storage has decreased greatly over the past 30 years as well. In this paper I will be talking about the decrease in the cost of RAM and Hard Drive Storage, how much will a 100TB HDD will cost when it becomes widely available in the future, and how much memory I will be able to buy with $100 in 10 years.
