“If you're getting rad and there is no one around to see it, are you really getting rad?” (Andy Hayes) This question proposed by Andy Hayes is a tough one to answer, and is one that puzzles skiers and snowboarders across the world. On one hand, you just nailed a totally righteous line that would undoubtedly leave you're alpine counterparts flabbergasted. On the other hand, nobody saw it, and will anybody actually believe your word when you tell them of your incredible feats. Besides for the question of are you getting rad, another must be answered; how rad did you actually get? We can all brag and rant about how amazingly we skied a line, but there must be a quantitative way to prove who got the raddest.…

In this essay I will be talking about being popular and being an outsider. People think you have to be gorgeous/handsome, play sports, be preppie, or have money to be popular. Then,to be an outsider you don’t have nice cloths, you don’t have money, you don’t play sports, and you don’t have nice things. Well you don’t have to have all that stuff to be popular or not be an outsider. The way I see it everyone is the sameway just have different talents.…

Society is plagued with messages of conformity. We are constantly told who we should be. The truth is, everyone is unique. However, that uniqueness fades if we conform. We must structure our lives around our uniqueness, and use it to our advantage when we can. We must live as individuals and embrace our differences. Being weird can give one a true sense of freedom, as it gives one the strength to reject the urge to conform if we embrace it.…

Zack Wheeler for Starlin Castro? Noah Syndergaard for Javier Baez? Jake deGrom for Addison Russell? No, no and no. Despite what appears to be a “match made in heaven” fit between the pitching-rich Mets and the shortstop-laden Cubs, the Cubs have shown little interest in moving any of their three high profile infielders. But what about their other shortstop, the guy nobody ever seems to talk about?…

If you look at this from a different angle, though, some people think that outsiders are people they think they know inside and out, and they find out that they are completely different from the rest of “us”. So he or she is now known for something that other people take as “weird” or “odd”. However, that person could just have a peculiar quirk that makes him or her different in a small way. Or another way we could put it, is that that person was misunderstood or misjudged. All people have different quirks that make them, them. It’s just that some people are better at “hiding” it than…

Being noticed is about what people see, our external self. It is about dressing up, putting on make-up, and more. It is about how we choose to present ourselves. It is basically like advertising, getting ourselves noticed. We can cover our flaws and highlight our perceived strengths. It can be what the others see with a quick look across a crowd. American Born Chinese by Gene Luen Yang is a graphic novel that shows that you are who you really are in the inside, and you can’t satisfy, or be respected by everyone and the stories of Jin Wang, Danny, and the Monkey King (“Great Sage, Equal of Heaven”) all face the problem of trying to stand out and attempting to change their status in society because they are looked down upon.…

It's important to be yourself, even if you're different from everyone else. This is a belief that transcendentalists believed. During the transcendentalism era, people thought that everyone should be themselves because everyone is beautiful in their own special way. Ralph Waldo Emerson, the father of transcendentalism, wrote a story called "Self-Reliance." "Self-Reliance" is about being yourself and relying on yourself and your own thoughts. "Self-Reliance" includes my personal favorite transcendentalism quote, "imitation is suicide." Transcendentalists believed in being yourself and relying on yourself even if you're different from everyone else, just like how Selena Gomez sings about how everyone is perfect in their own way, and how One Direction sings about how they found a beautiful girl that doesn't know she's beautiful.…

I've often pondered if certain individuals dress and act to stand out in order to fit in. It's an amusing concept. The example that could most easily be applied to this notion is that of Goths or Tight-Jeaned, Thick-Glasses-Rims, Punk-Rawkers. Exhibiting a particular persona in order to remove oneself from the crowd, or a mere method of gaining membership into a sub-crowd? I don't wish to come off as stereotyping certain groups of people, because the idea of individuals truly believing that they are nonconformists from the whole of society (although they may be unconsciously conformists to certain subgroups in society) can be readily applicable to any number of individuals.…
