We all look up to leaders, but who do they look up to? In the society we live in today, there are many political leaders all around the world. From the United States president to the pope of the Roman Catholic Church, people just like us are fighting for good causes. Leaders have walked the face of this earth and have left their marks in history. Saint Thomas More was one of those people. Saint Thomas was a lawyer, author, and a statesman. Born in 1478, More served under King Henry VIII. He became Undersheriff of the City of London, Under-Treasurer of the Exchequer, Master of Requests, High Steward of Oxford and Cambridge, Lord Chancellor of the Realm, and Speaker of the House of Commons. He is known for writing the fiction Utopia in 1516 and his brave death in 1535. Saint Thomas had many attributes that people strive for today. Thomas More was known for his service to the king at the time, Henry VIII. He worked closely with the king of England and was his secretary and confidant. In 1520, Thomas assisted King Henry VIII with responding to Martin Luther’s works. These works introduced his doctrine of salvation through grace and rejected some Catholic practices. As I said before, he also had many attributes that will best serve political leaders in the election year. One of his many attributions was bravery. Political leaders, such as the president, must be brave enough to share their ideas and viewpoints with the world. Another attribute that would best serve our elected leaders in this election year is wisdom and knowledge. Political people like lawyers and attorneys must gain knowledge through experiences and use it for good. Leadership is another important attribute. Political leaders must step up and take a stand. Loyalty and faith are two important attributes. Like Thomas, leaders must stay loyal to each other and have faith that God will guide
