St. Leo University Experience
I medically retired from the United States Army in December of 2014. This action prevents me from working. After over four years in Afghanistan and a year in Iraq, I am used to being busy every day and worried about how I could use me time in an effective way without becoming an alcoholic or something worse. My decision was to attend a university and be the first one in my immediate family to receive a degree. I have not been to school, (other than military schools) for 34 years. I learned from friends and colleagues to attend a school who has proven track record and utilizes advanced technology for their classes and web site.
In my decision making process I decided to attend Saint Leo’s University due to a few factors: They have a remote campus five minutes from my residence, they are military friendly and utilize a lot of technology for their online classes. Saint Leo University was founded in 1889 and ranks high in the 2016 edition

Through the last nine weeks this class and my experiences have taught me so much about how to prepare myself for my future not only in my college courses but in my career path too. I started this path not really knowing what to expect but in desperate need for a change in my life. In all reality I didn’t realize how unprepared I actually was. This course imp articular taught me so much! I learned how to set goals for myself so that I could stay motivated and be able to visually see my completion of each goal. You separate your goals into short term and long term so that you can effectively schedule your tasks at hand in the correct order to accomplish all of your goals. When I realized that I had a fear of failing I was also directed in this course to learn how to overcome procrastination. It is easy to be motivated in this learning environment by reading the stories and opinions of the other students here. The more motivated you are the less you procrastinate! Managing my time was definitely one of the hugest struggles for me through this experience so I was thankful that this topic was covered so thoroughly in the past weeks. I actually am starting to enjoy making the calendar for each week that organizes the lives of my daughter and I. Another lesson that goes hand in hand with time management is creating an effective learning and study environment. It’s so important to be able to get the absolute most out of every minute of your time. To do this I’ve found that when studying you need to be able to focus yourself on nothing other than your schoolwork and assignments on hand. With all of the things I have learned by my experiences in the past few weeks I feel more confident about my pursuit in my career goals. I feel this has set me up to succeed. I have been able to learn how to think outside the box and be independent in my decision making process.…

An essential skill that will help me succeed in college is time management. I chose this skill because it is crucial to know when a class is, when an assignment is due, what day the test is, when I have free time, and when I don’t. Mastering this skill will help me keep track of my time and ensure I get all my studies done while still having free time to do fun things. When I get to the point where I realize I don’t have time to go to the mall with everyone because I have to study for that math test, I will remind myself it is just part of the journey to my Medical Degree in Biochemistry that I will complete in the future. In “Managing Your Time: Setting Priorities and Developing Strategies for Success” Businessman Company writes,…

Success in college depends on time control. Time control means learning how to control your time instead of procrastinating. There are three important steps that will help to improve controlling your time. The first step is to prepare a large monthly calendar to mark important dates for tests, due dates, and study plans for the semester. The second step is to mark a chart for a weekly study schedule that will last the semester. The last, most valuable time-control method is to make a daily or weekly “to do” list.…
