The Mabinogion, a complex collection of works of great significance to the Welsh culture: a compilation of texts that cannot be taken literally where each line has some metaphorical and/or cultural significance. This paper will mainly be focusing on the four branches (The Mabinogi), trying to explore the connections between these four relatively independent works that are grouped together to form the Mabinogi. At first glance, there seems to be no connection between the texts except for one thing, which is the character of Pryderi who appears in all four texts. There are two ways to understand Pryderi’s role in the Mabinogi, the first is that he is just a minor character who was put in so that a connection can be made between the four texts,…

Located in the North Tyron cultural district, an orientation point for both visitors and newcomers is provided by the museum. It tells the citys history from the perspectives of people who died in the textile strikes, who suffered through the Jim Crow era, and the viewpoint of the ones who fought for civil rights. The last section of the exhibit reveals Charlotte’s modern plights; traffic, urban sprawl and the loss of many historic buildings.…

Many poor and people who couldn’t support themselves would starve to death and also many people were dying of diseases that were spreading through the cities. “For most of its people a land of violence, squalor, treachery, and intolerance.” In-migration from the countryside was a vital part to if the cities were to be saved from going extinct. Conditions with famine were harsh. “The rich ate, and ate to excess, watched by a thousand hungry eyes as they consumed their gargantuan meals. The rest of the population starved” The slightest fluctuation in food price could cause the sudden death of thousands.…

The term "labor" evokes many topics: workforce, wages, health plans, benefits, jobs, work hours, youth, etc. My main focus of this project is the youth. The Children's Bureau was transferred into the Department of Labor in 1913. The Children's Bureau began life in a time when child labor was typical and usual. One of its initial missions was to work to relieve the agony and hardships of children caused by shameless child labor. I chose this topic because times have greatly changed and child labor has took a huge turn in history where children are not worked hard and forced to work. I looked down the list of topics and after researching much of it, I decide it should be my topic for this year.…

Enclosed between the high mountains of the Hindu Kush in the central highlands of Afghanistan, the Bamiyan Valley opens out into a large basin bordered to the north by a long, high stretch of rocky cliffs. The Cultural Landscape and Archaeological Remains of the Bamiyan Valley comprise a serial property consisting of eight separate sites within the Valley and its tributaries. Carved into the Bamiyan Cliffs are the two niches of the giant Buddha statues (55m and 38m high) destroyed by the Taliban in 2001, and numerous caves forming a large ensemble of Buddhist monasteries, chapels and sanctuaries along the foothills of the valley dating from the 3rd to the 5th century C.E. In several of the caves and niches, often linked by galleries, there are remains of wall paintings and seated Buddha figures. In the valleys of the Bamiyan's tributaries are further groups of caves including the Kakrak Valley Caves, some 3km south-east of the Bamiyan Cliffs where among the more than one hundred caves dating from the 6th to 13th centuries are fragments of a 10m tall standing Buddha figure and a sanctuary with painted decorations from the Sasanian period. Along the Fuladi valley around 2km southwest of the Bamiyan Cliffs are the caves of Qoul-i Akram and Lalai Ghami, also containing decorative features.…
