Spring Break Reflection
My 2017 spring break felt very tiring and busy. My everyday schedule for this break was pretty much already decided. Monday through Friday I spent my whole day from eight to six at a tennis camp. This tennis camp helped me improve on my hitting skills but, it was very tiring and hard. The tennis camp also fun at the same time because the Konawaena tennis team was down there and plus tennis players from other school came so we got to have like a tennis bonding time. On saturday, we had a tennis match against Hilo. This match was my very first match of the season and I was very scared and nervous. Even though I did not do good at the match I still had fun experiencing a new thing in my life. Sunday I got to take a break from tennis, and got to

Week three was highlighted by the discussion of fixed assets and the use of accounting for depreciation of those assets. Businesses utilize depreciation of their fixed assets to take advantage of the tax breaks that they receive. The cost of depreciation of assets lowers the taxable income of a company and in turn allows either a higher refund or less owed in taxes. Another option that is available is the use of accelerated depreciation. This option allows for companies to accelerate the depreciation of assets to a current year's return to gain a higher tax break. The use of this tool is usually implemented in times of economic turmoil to stimulate the economy.…

The information that I was having a problem with in last week’s reading was dealing with Notes Receivables. I was having a hard time taking in why and where it would be coded on the books. I took a little extra time this week to gather information so therefore I could have a better understanding. Notes receivable is an asset of a company, bank or other organization that holds a written promissory note from another party. For example, if a company lends one of its suppliers $10,000 and the supplier signs a written promise to repay the amount, the company will enter the amount in its asset account Notes Receivable. The supplier will also enter the amount in its liability account…

For this week's employee compliance plan, understanding state and federal laws will help these business owners ensure proper compliance and avoid any legal issues. Discussing laws such as the Civil Right Act of 1964, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act of 1967, and the Occupational Safety and Health Act ensures businesses take their employees into consideration. These federal laws apply to all businesses to prevent employee discrimination and to ensure a safe and healthy working environment such as the creation of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration or OSHA. Although not all states give OSHA full control to govern what is safe and what is not, it is imperative that measures accommodate a safe environment for employees.…

Because of tournaments of weekends and practice right after school everyday, I miss a tremendous amount of social events. For example, I have only gone to Summit’s Field Day once because 2 out of 3 of the Friday’s it is held on, I had a big national tournament. I also don't get together with my friends as much as other girls in my grade. Because of the rigorous tennis schedule, it is hard for me to get involved in other activities such as other sports, school clubs, etc,… Unlike other kids, I rarely have a weekend where I do nothing. I am either playing a tournament or finishing all my homework over the weekend so that I can balance school with tennis. I also rarely have a holiday without a tennis tournament. For example, on Christmas day, my family and I are flying to Tucson, AZ to play winter nationals. Being 5 foot 10 inches, I am constantly getting injured. I do multiple things to prevent injuries but it doesn't always work. I sacrifice inuring my body to play tennis. I sacrifice a large list of things in order to play at the high level I do. I believe these sacrifices are worth it because I am constantly doing something that I…

During Spring Break everyone is usually flying or driving out to for vacation.I usually go to Florida or last year I went to Arizona, but this year I did nothing. I obviously wanted to do something different so I picked California so that means I stayed home during spring break so here is what I did during that week.First, my sister came home to visit from college as she is in Bowling Green and does not need to do a ton of driving. It is still great to see my sister and finally hang out with her. After my sister came home and went with my mom to do something I went out to hits some golf balls with…

Throughout my freshman college career, I was able to adapt to a new style of writing. Later on, the style of writing that I had learn had aided me with the transition of my Paper 2 to fit in my public argument in Project 3. Since this was a vital public argument, then it had to be shortened down and be extremely specific to illustrate its key points. By using these methods, I was able to easily format my research in order to produce a debatable argumentative speech for Project 3. Last but not least, the changes that were being made increased the overall effectiveness of my debatable argument, helped present my message stronger, plus it increased my rhetorical use of ethos, pathos, logos in Project 3.…

The community I chose to help was Black Hawk Middle School. I chose this to help the middle school. I did this by helping the students learn how to get ready for high school. My partner I, Shawn, went to Black Hawk on the 29th 30th and the 31st and we talk to the students about high school. My expectation was to go to Black Hawk and talk to the kids about what I did wrong when I was in 8th grade and how it reflect on my high school year and tried to get them to look at 8th grade. I wanted to reflect and see that what they're doing in 8th grade will help them for high school. I pick helping Black Hawk Middle School because I went there as a middle school student and I wanted to help the teacher that were telling me to get ready for high school. I thought if the student hear from 9th grade student maybe they will start getting ready if there weren't already.…

The proudest moment in my high school career is when I signed myself to take my first AP class. I was really nervous about going to the meeting to sign myself up to get the summer assignment because I felt that I was not ready for the work load, and I would not be able to pass the class. My excuse for not going to the meeting was that I was helping in the cafeteria and I was really late, but when I told my two best friends Jenny and Virginia that I wasn't going to take it anymore. They got so frustrated and annoyed with me because they said I was stupid if I didn’t take AP calculus because that was my favorite subject and I needed a challenge of class. They also made me remember when I would tell them that Math Analysis was easy and a lot of…

Freshman year was a learning experience with growing pains. I had preconceived notions of what it would be like as a Black male at a Predominately White Institution. I believed that I would be in a diverse place where I could meet people from different backgrounds and life experiences. I was extremely excited to begin this journey, and being a member of the Honors program made me even more excited. However, that excitement quickly turned into shock and disbelief, when people questioned whether I belonged at UNC in the honors program. It was an isolating experience, being the only Black male in a room, and people having stop their conversations and stare at me.…

I had a an interview with two people. I had an interview with my fellow friend’s mother, Lazaria Foreman and my father, Mitchell Burgess. I asked both adults on their decisions on whether they went to college or not. My questions were very specific on experiences of college and not being able to attend college. One main question that I asked, which sums up this essay is “ Were you successful, life after highschool or college?” and both answers were yes.…
