Pursuit of God

I liked this book mainly because it talks about bringing followers to Christ in many different ways. It seems like in this day in time people tend to get confused with different ideas about finding acceptance. Some would say that going to church every Sunday is the only way to grow closer to God. I don’t agree with this. I believe that no matter where you are, if you have a close enough relationship with God you can talk to Him anytime and anywhere. Talking with God through prayer and reading the scripture are good ways to stay close with the Lord. Some people try to teach the scripture constantly to believers that already know about the Bible. So I say to go out and find people that have not had a relationship with Christ and bring them into understanding they have a purpose on this earth too. As the book talks about believers being constantly ministered to when they already feel that their teaching does not satisfy. I feel that it is way more important to seek people that need and want Christ in their life. It is impossible to force somebody to believe and have faith in something they don’t want to even if it is wrong or right.

Faith is a very strong word. It is believing is something without being able to see it. God works in many different ways in our lives. Sometimes it’s hard to see how He is working in our lives, but Christians must have faith that He is with us every day. Faith is occupied with the object upon which it rests and pays no attention to itself at all. The book talks about a great example. “ The man who has struggled to purify himself and has had nothing but repeated failures will experience real relief when he stops tinkering with his soul and looks to the perfect One.” This basically means that if your struggling with aspects of your life and have been for a

Faith is the concept of having complete trust or confidence in someone or something. Faith is a very powerful concept of the mind. It can influence a person to act in ways never thought possible. One’s beliefs may be so important to them that they may even be the center of that person’s life. Take Elie Wiesel, for example. He was a very religious person during his lifetime, let alone his youth. He would talk about his desire as a young boy to go and study Kabbalah whenever the opportunity presented itself. He loved the religion, and his faithfulness for it was one of the reasons why he was strong enough to make it out of the Holocaust alive.…

All throughout generations, humans have desired to know what to put their faith into when it appears that God is not there. To Louie Zamperini, he finds that if he does not put his trust in the Lord and does not ask to be saved, that he would surely be put to death. Through Laura Hillenbrand’s Unbroken, pastor Billy Graham displays how impactful God is through maintaining faith and how to live that life through Him: “What God asks of men, said Graham, is faith. His Invisibility is the truest test of that faith. To know who sees him, God makes himself unseen.” (Hillenbrand 190)…

This point convicted me personally. Everything Strobel says in this section astounds me. “After a while, Harry feels like a case study. If this was a real friendship… it would not be dependent on whether we succeed in bringing him to Christ” (Strobel 61). The last thing hurting a lost people want is for someone to treat them like they are their “religious science experiment”, what they really want and desire is a meaningful relationship and someone who will sincerely care about them. One evangelism tool that I found and that is mentioned in the book is small groups. I have found that it is so much easier to bring a friend to a barbeque or bowling activity, than it is to the church. If a non-believer sees the community aspect of the small group, they will eventually have their heart softened towards the church as a whole. Just as Strobel said, “Harry’s attitude softens when he sees the church not as an institution but as a caring community where his relational longings can be fulfilled” (Strobel 63). I believe that the church needs to stop viewing themselves as a “hospital for the broken” and start viewing themselves as a “helping hand to the…

The first part of my philosophy of ministry is to teach believers in the knowledge and the ways of Jesus Christ. Every member in the church has gifts. They need to understand their gifts and if you have the gift to teach, be trained in the work of the ministry. Teaching God’s people to do the work of the ministry takes place through the teaching of Scripture (2 Tim. 3:16-17).…

However, Dr. Arroway’s prospective on faith changes as the film progresses. Faith is having a strong belief in something without having proof, and Dr. Arroway’s comment mimics the concept of religious faith. In religion, especially in monotheism, when an individual believes in God, the person has complete trust in the supreme being and the doctrines without having any proof of God’s…

It’s main strength is the discussion of the Fallen Condition Focus. This homiletical tool will allow preachers to craft a sermon that is redemptive and Christ-Centered. It will aide one in their exegetical and homiletical tasks, keeping the sermon theocentric, showing others their constant need for Christ and the gospel. Unfortunately Christ-Centered Preaching does not address the issue of preaching to the needs of ones congregation or planning a preaching series. Christ-Centered Preaching focuses on the construction of a single sermon. Overall this text is amazing and all preachers should be required to read…

This book gives us guidance on how our vision should be shaped, carried out, and observed by others. For us to be successful in our mission we have to share our vision that hopefully God has given us. We see in chapter 5 how we need a vision that is Christ centered and not just community centered, then in chapter 2 we see how important it is to share our vision so it can be carried out and made greater by the power of the Lord than we ever imagined. I never realized how important it is to go into a mission with a specific vision in mind. We need on our minds focused on what we can establish so the gospel of Jesus Christ can spread where we are ministering. I love how in chapter 2 the author brings out how our visions should be focused on the Kingdom. I believe it is important to make sure that the vision we are carrying and telling is in line with God’s Word and direction, along with it being Jesus centered. We see throughout the book how important it is for Jesus to be the center of our vision so we can impact people both spiritually and the ways that we are trying to help them. I love how in chapter 5 Lingenfelter stressed how we should not just serve their physical needs, for if we do this we are just like any other secular business that could come in. As Christians, we should with everything we do promote and…

According to the online version of the Merriam-Webster dictionary, “faith is the allegiance to duty or a person: loyalty (1): fidelity to one's promises (2): sincerity of intentions.”# The concept of faith can cleverly be disguised as a purely religious byproduct; possessed primarily by the followers of a religious belief system or spiritual path. However, faith simply means a strong trust in something or someone. Faith is to commit oneself to act based on life experience to warrant rationalization, but without sufficient proof. To have a faith in someone or something also involves an act of will to persevere when the odds are at great length. Even though the protagonist, Jim Wormold doesn’t have religious faith and his actions motivated entirely by desperation to have the approval of an absent wife and spoiled daughter, he is the only character that doesn’t exhibit blind faith.…

One central idea in “Our Spiritual Strivings” is self-consciousness. Dubois states that “true self- consciousness” is something African Americans don’t have because they are forced to see themselves through the eyes of white people, that African Americans need to know themselves on their own terms instead of white world terms, and that this recognition of their own value is necessary for the attainment of respect for the “ideal of human brotherhood”.…
