Speech On Hero's Journey
Sons of Scotland, my brothers, today an English army crawls our lands from the east to claim our lives, dignity and families. Another approaches from the west. Between them, they hope to trap us in the low grounds, where they will pick us off one by one until we float in pools of Scottish blood. Blood that will not be spilled for the likes of King Edward – English scum.

I see a whole army of my countrymen standing before me, come here in defiance of tyranny. You have journeyed here, amongst brothers, as free men, yet I see fear hidden deep within your eyes. The same fear that would cause any Scotsman to lose his faith. There may be a day, when our courage fails, when we forsake our families and lands. But today is not that day! Today we will

As he drew his dying breath, Wallace had faith in his countrymen. Will we let him die in vain? Now that his body has been torn to pieces to serve as a warning to those who defy the English, we will fight, as one body. For Scotland, and for Wallace!

Arise, arise fighters of Scotland! Spears shall be shattered, armour will be pierced, they will hear the ring of our swords and they will know what we can do. We will not just kill the bassas, we will show the tits how we Scots do battle.

We must avoid low grounds and let the English think they have the element of surprise. Callum, take your men north and behind the line of trees. The English should begin approaching by dawn. As for my men, we will set up camp. Pitch your tents and start the fires. Before sunrise we will travel south. When the English arrive, we will pick them off like bugs as they swarm our camp. Any survivors will be taken out when we charge from north and south. Archers, count your arrows, cavalry, sharpen your spears, and the rest of you, prepare yourselves for battle! The English pillocks better be ready to kiss our Scottish

Colonel Campbell’s men were the first to charge up the hill and engage the Rangers (Alderman 36). The mountain was rough, but still they took charge. Campbell’s shouted appeal was, “Boys remember your liberty, come on, do it my brave fellows, another gun, another gun will do it.” When Shelby’s men approached the bottom of the hill, he yelled, “Now boys, quickly reload your rifles and let’s advance upon them and give them another hell of a fire.” More and more troops continued to take down the British. “The human slaughter was tremendous. The dead and wounded covered the mountain on the slopes and on the flat” (Alderman 38). Ferguson soon realized that he had pretty much lost, but he did not surrender yet. He broke his way through enemy lines; slashing his sword at whoever was in his way. Ferguson and two fellow officers were shot down by the creek. “Most historians have credited Robert Young with the deed. Regardless, the bullet that felled Ferguson soon brought the battle to an end” (Alderman 38). Captain Abraham De Peyster took charge of the British force after Ferguson died. Captain De Peyster continued to fight on, but he hopelessly realized there was not much more he and his troops could do, so he surrendered. A near tragedy occurred soon after the British surrendered. Tories, followers of King George III, grabbed their guns and fired at the patriots. The aftermath was very confusing…

The British are coming! The British are coming!" This infamous quote is by Paul Revere, a messenger of the Boston Committee of Correspondence. For years Britain had been known to have one of the mightiest military powers in the world. This sentiment was only furthered by their 1588 defeat of the Spanish Armada and again by their defeat of the French in 1763 (in the seven years’ war). In contrast, the colonies had small militias made up of mere citizens that were, for the most part, untrained in battle or military strategy. How could anyone expect the colonies, with their lowly militias, to ever hope to bring down such a force as the renowned British military?…

By situating people of oppositional national sentiments within a single overwhelming display of the Union’s victory, Barker’s panorama painting intentionally blurs the boundary between nations, and forge a “collective memory” that can be shared among different cultural groups (Oleksijczuk 45). Furthermore, such shared imaginary helps define a culture, a culture that was born out of British national pride and Scotland’s incorporation within the…

Britain has overtaxed us, threatened us, and now they have killed us, and not only that, they have killed innocent, orderly, citizens who had done nothing to deserve being murdered. Another Bostonian said after the tragic murder, “Are the inhabitants to be knocked down in the streets? Are they to be murdered…?”…

The night of April, 18, 1775 I was abruptly woken up by some random man running through Boston yelling “The British are coming, the British are coming!” I was not very happy of getting less than a hour of sleep. This weird man came through around 10:30 PM and woke everyone in the town from there sleep. At first when I heard him say that phase I did not know what he meant by it. I then gathered with my neighbors outside and was told if I wanted to fight the British I had to sign my name on the books in the city hall later that evening. When I went to that meeting later that night they told me to go home get a pound of bread a flask of water and my gun, and to also get a little rest and when the drums sound go stand on the green. So I went home and rested a little and then said my goodbyes to little Johnny and Benjamin. Until we all heard the drums. I then went with my…
