My mind begins to wander as I use quick, jerking movements of the wrist to skillfully flip the succotash. Often I have been asked how I learned to cook. Growing up, cooking was viewed more as a chore by everyone in the family. You see, my mom worked a lot and I had two younger brothers. I did my fair share of the cooking. Generally simple stuff like boiled pasta with jarred sauce and maybe some added ground beef. We didn’t have any fancy appliances either. Just a simple cutting board, no decent chef’s knives, and steel pans.…

When mother was cooking, she had a serious look, and mother could take anything and make something out of it. In addition, today, I have the same cooking inspiration mother had. It is so much joy to cook for my children, neighbors, family and friends. Cooking inspire me in many ways, because there are so many different types of recipes to choose from. It is very important that when I cook for my neighbor's t I find recipes with diversity, because I am bringing together people with different cultures, and it excites me to learn from all backgrounds of people. This helps start a great conversation, and allow them to tell why certain foods are more important to them then others. Cooking is another way for me to express love, because the most wonderful moments in my life is preparing recipes that my mother prepared, especially around the holidays. Just watching people come together enjoying each other and the food. Oh what smiles and joy food brings. This is why cooking is enjoyable. Great tasting healthy food creates an atmosphere of its own and can create relationships that will last a lifetime. Foods that inspire me to Cook The foods that inspire me to cook are simple foods, such as chicken and dumpling, eggplant chips, turkey wraps and, I love to prepare fresh corn from the cob. Homemade soups, and herb and garlic turkey. When I was growing up we always went to the farmer's market and bought fresh vegetables and my father had a hog and chicken farm. Since, we were raised preparing, and canning our vegetables, our family ate a lot of fresh grown foods, and we hardly used anything from a box. There are different cooking sites that really allow you to take your cooking to another level. When I am looking for a recipe for a variety of sweets, and cakes to share with my grandchildren; I prepare recipes with Nestle products. For great ideas on…

My dad has always been the cook in the house and now that we were away from him my sister and I were exiled to eating only the types of food that if you left it on the counter for a few months and revisited it, it would still look the same. It was a life of pizza rolls, hot pockets, kid cuisines, ramen noodles, and any other processed food that you can cook via microwave because Mom was at the bar but she didn’t trust us with the stove. I ate these foods rampantly and slowly I forgot what it felt like to be hungry or full. A few months after the move I began to see myself as a little pig girl: always eating, never clean, making noises that only seemed to bother people. It was like my life had turned into one of the Animorph books that I always stayed up so late reading. I would look at myself and the mirror and oink in disgust. I didn’t look like myself, or feel like myself. I just wasn’t…
No big deal, right? [pause] So one might still ask the question, whats wrong with Meatless Monday?…
I. “The way we eat has changed more in the last 50 years than in the previous 10,000.” Food activist, Michael Pollan, makes this statement as the introduction to a documentary titled Food Inc., which discusses the way food is being produced today in America.…
Change what people eat and you change their lives. Food is all about the stories that define our lives. When it comes to the rhythms and symbols of faith, it's easy to see the role that food plays. Food also reflects what people believe about family and community life. Understanding the role of food in cultural and religious practice is an important part of showing respect and responding to the needs of people from a range of religious communities. However, it is important to avoid assumptions about a person’s culture and beliefs. In my West Indian culture food plays a major role. A huge part of Western India is cosmopolitan in its food habits, but there is still plenty of traditional fare to be had. The cuisine of the Caribbean is like a cultural patchwork quilt. Food in the Caribbean reflects both the best and worst of the Caribbean's history. On the positive side, Caribbean culture has been compared with a popular stew there called Callao. The stew analogy comes from the many different ethic groups peacefully maintaining their traditions and customs while blending together, creating a distinct new flavor. On the negative side, many foods and cooking techniques derive from a history of violent European conquest, the importation of slaves from Africa, and the indentured servitude of immigrants in the plantation system. Within this context, students and other readers will understand the diverse island societies and ethnicity through their food cultures. Island food culture is an essential component in understanding the Caribbean past and…

Cooking something yourself, either if it’s for yourself or others, gives the reward and satisfaction of accomplishment. However, these days it’s so much easier to go out to eat or run through the drive through. I’m seeing more and more younger kids growing up without the skills of cooking that has been passed down from generation to generation. We have grown away from bonding as a family by everyone eating at the dinner table at night. We have come more and more accustomed to just grabbing our plate and sitting down in front of the T.V. instead of interacting with the ones around…
I have a question for you at the beginning of this speech. Who just eat organic food everyday?…
