Speech Being Nervous
1. Your knees shake as you get out of your seat. Your stomach does somersaults; your hands start to quiver. Your ears become hot as you blush bright red, your voice wavers, you look at your feet and fidget you wish the floor would open up and engulf you in one big bite. Have you felt or done some or all of these nervous actions? Well you don’t need to worry anymore when you are next nervous. Maybe to your utter disbelief it is normal for your nerves to be in an uproar when you’re nervous.

2. I am going to talk about some of the techniques many have been told to help with your nerves. The cause behind being nervous and what you can do to help with being nervous. So I will take a deep breath and hope my nerves don’t get the better of me through out this speech.
Here are some techniques I’ve heard and you decide whether or not they actually help. Have you been told to picture the crowd naked before? This is probably the worst technique because it is more likely to scar you for life rather then actually help you.

3. Or it will make you break out in incontrollable laughter which you can not recover from. Another is picturing the judges or crowd trying to do, what you are doing. So say you are doing a hip-hop exam, picture the old judges trying to do your routine. This can help depending on what you are nervous about and most likely make you laugh which also helps when you’re nervous. Humor is always helpful! Another technique is to stare at a spot on the wall of the back of the room. This is also a bad technique because you look really stupid honestly. I will show you.

4. Good afternoon I am going to talk to you about being nervous and how it is alright. See it just looks bad. You are better off actually looking at your audience and being nervous then staring at a spot. Breathing deeply is also another technique. Which if you are not careful can lead to hyperventilating and then you blackout as long as you breathe slowly you will be fine. And last resort.

This was the easiest speech, considering that all I had to do was rant about the story I was telling. For this speech, I didn’t feel that nervous because it was something that I remember vividly and nothing could go wrong with it. Moving on to the next speech, which was the informative speech, I felt nervousness once again. The fact that we had to research everything well and make sure the sources were cited correctly, then try memorizing what we would say for 6 minutes, and aside from that remember to do the speaker’s triangle, I got anxious. Fortunately, I did not do horrible, which is what I was expecting. Continuing to the next speech, we had our persuasive speech. This speech at first seemed easy because it was similar to the informative speech in many ways. The only difference was the time limit and the PowerPoint we had to make. For this speech I was well prepared and I felt great about it, I thought it was going to be the best speech. I had high hopes, but not everything goes as planned because as soon as my speech started and I was about to change the slide, I was unable to use the clicker. I got embarrassed and did not want to continue, but I knew I had to. I pushed along through the speech until I finished it. Although it wasn’t the best speech, I had to learn that not everything will flow the way you want things to, and instead you need to move…

This is the first opportunity for me to present information of any topic to my class in a while. I’m not sure if I remember the last time I presented in front of a class full of people, which made me very nervous for this presentation especially in front of people I didn’t know and had never talked to before. As the date for me to present was arriving I began to get more nervous because again I haven’t done this is a while but once I entered the class I did a good job of keeping my nerves down and simply reading the slides to the class and presenting the information of my particular dialect very well I feel like. For many people presenting such things are enjoyable and fun for them but for me I’ve never been a big fan of presenting in front of a classroom full of students and in this case a classroom full of students I don’t know.…

Being the center of attention can be very nerve racking. Are they judging the way I am dressed or the way I present myself? Are they paying attention to what I have to say? Or even, what will they think of me when I am done my presentation? Lastly, can I stop my nervous habits long enough to finish my presentation? These are all questions that run through my head that could easily distract me from actually presenting in the way I would like too.…

It is more than likely that I will always have some anxiety before speaking in front of a room of people; this is a natural reaction and can be managed quite easily. I have learnt to take this type of anxiety as an advantage as I use the anxious feeling to focus on what I need to remember. I have learnt that by being congruent and showing positive regard to myself that I can increase my confidence levels. When trying to deliver a message in a way that wasn’t true to me I became confused and this showed in my role play work.…

I was very nervous as I was the first one to present. I was hoping that I will make a good impression to my peers and to our lecturer. The need to make good impressions to my peers who are professionals as well was driving me to anxiety. My body was going under the 'general adaptation syndrome' (Selye, 1976), this stimulus-response syndrome triggers a wide-ranging set of bodily changes designed to ensure physical adaptation to an event. I noticed that I was breathing faster, my hands were colder, my knees were shaking a bit but my mind was clear. In order to…

One strategy that helps is just sitting back and relaxing. While others are presenting anxiety will tend to build, instead just focus on what material you are going to be presenting and take a deep breath. Secondly, be confident in the material that you are presenting, do not compare your information to someone who might be presenting because the information is always going to be different. When referring to the textbook, it provides strategies that help with anxiety. One strategy that it mentions is to memorize your opening line. This is very important, and something that even I forget to do. Memorizing that first line and having that down, is the statement piece to your whole presentation. This is a way for you presenting to make eye contact right away, and show them how much time you have put into the project. One last tip is to visualize the success that it will bring you. It may not benefit you directly right then and there, but it will help you become a stronger presenter as well as give you a strong grade in the…

What I did find out though is that I can improve in so many aspects. Although it won't be easy to just stop being nervous out of nowhere I can improve by rehearsing more as well as preparing more for the next speech. Rehearsal is a really important factor in speech delivery and it is one of the main steps to achieve confidence. Delivering a speech can be really easy, but many factors actually contribute to it. What I need to do next time is rehearse everything well. I have to be able to organize my speech in a way I feel comfortable presenting and in ways it is easy for me to recall the information while I am giving my speech. What I really need to work on is my speech delivery. When I present my next speech I can't seem nervous. I need to have pleasing facial expressions and body movement where it seems i’m comfortable and confident with what I am saying. I have to get over my anxiety with presenting. I can't stress enough how much I have to rehearse. With that in mind everything else will just fall smoothly with presenting the information, as long as it is reliable and interesting…

When I am nervous I tend to look at everything in the room except the audience, not trying to disconnect from the audience, but trying not to let them intimidate me. I feel when I hit the “stage” I go numb and just let my body be taken over by the energy and I let go of everything, because a wise man once told me that when you own your fear then nothing can hurt you. Even if I am nervous I am going to get up and perform because at the end of it all I feel more empowered and confident in myself. So my advice to nervous people would be the same as the advice given to me, own the fear don’t let it own you, when you let fear own you are wasting your life away you miss out on many of great opportunities because you were too afraid to try. So, conquer your fear, don’t let it own you, turn your nerves in to excitement and turn out everything you do and make your light shine through. Don’t be afraid to mess up, mess up happens that’s a part of life, if you think you will mess up that increases your chances of messing up even more (True Fact) so relax and let everything work itself out and…
