Speech Analysis Report
The Linguistic Genious of Babies
The speech I choose to write my speech analysis report is “The Linguistic Genious of Babies”. The speaker is Patricia Kuhl who is internationally recognized for her research on early language and brain development. In her fascinating talk, Patricia Kuhl shares surprising findings about how babies learn one language over another. She logically divides the topic into three major parts as introduction, body and conclusion. I will analyze the speech with respect to these three main parts. Moreover, during my analysis I will focus on how kuhl used the strategies of presenting. Although Kuhl did not do a little greeting and introducing herself to her audience (may be it is because she is a well known scientist) she opened her speech in a clear tone and she gave some background information about the topic. She started her speech with a picture of charming baby which she used as an attention grabber. Hereby, she engaged her audience’s interest, furthermore, she evoke their sympathy. More importantly, she did not deviate from the content along with this attention getting technique. She managed to relate the picture to the topic of the presentation quiete well. I can easily say that her introduction captured the audience’s attention. In the body part of her presentation, she achieved a warm reception.during her speech, she expressed her ideas in a clear and comprehensible language. She supported her ideas and findings by using some statistics from some researches. Although these statistics make the presentation more credible and more persuasive. It was hard for me to keep in mind all these numbers. I think, this made a little confuse for audience. However, her statistics about the topic was appropriate as a supporting technique. She succesfully combined statistics with the topic. Another point of my analysis is delivery. Her physical delivery was quiete successful, she used appropriate and effective gestures. She also mentioned her good

The speaker for the speech entitled Bursting the Antibacterial Bubble use very clear and vivid language. A couple of examples from the text include: “Today millions of Americans are trying to build a bubble around themselves and their families to keep out germs. The bubble is not made of plastic, however, but of billions of dollars worth of antibacterial hand wipes, tissues, soaps, and sponges.” The language included in this speech tends to be very clear cut and supported with numerous facts. The speaker does little to embellish and only uses heavily emotional words on sparse occasions.…

The Civil War, a war fought during the 1860s, decided a great many things: slavery or freedom, south and north or unification. In the beginning of the war, the Northern African Americans were not allowed to join the Union Army and fight against the Southern oppressors. Alfred M. Green, while giving a speech in Philadelphia at the beginning of the war, urged African American to prepare to enlist. He also spoke subversively about the unfairness of the treatment of African Americans not only in the South but also in the North. Green uses a variety of methods to persuade his fellow African-Americans to prepare for war while also speaking out against the treatment of the African-Am. in the North.…

The elements of presentation are performance, nonverbal communication, gender and performance, Idealization, embarrassment and tact, and tact. Performance has to do with tone of voice, dress, gestures, and objects. Nonverbal communication is body language, facial expressions and gestures. Gender and performance has to do with men’s and women’s roles and how they see each other. Idealization is how our actions reflect our ideal culture rather than our motives. Speech Sounds is a fictional story written by an African-American science fiction author by the name of Octavia E. Butler. Octavia Butler received both the Hugo and Nebula awards for various works of hers. At a very young age Octavia was diagnosed with dyslexia and had acquired a slight speech impediment, which led to ongoing teasing and humiliation from her peers. She was often belittled and bullied by this and also affected by racism and sexism. Writing fictional stories was Butler’s self-therapy to foster her emotions based on the experiences in her own life. She was drawn to reading and writing science fiction stories to elude her boredom and loneliness. Speech Sounds is one of her many fictional pieces that she has written to help convey her emotions to an audience. In 1984, Octavia Butler was presented with the Hugo Award for her story Speech Sounds and also received a lifetime achievement award for her writing from the PEN American Center. In most of her works, Butler explored multiple social issues such as race, sexuality, gender, religion, and social class.…

A young child has twice as many neurons than adults. The child brain is plastic, a magnificent and flexible engine for learning. Children learn to crawl, reason, pay attention and remember. They learn to make friends, but nowhere is learning more dramatic than in the way a child learns to master language, the great leap that the brain makes that is nothing short of a miracle. I can relate being the eldest of my siblings’ language development represents one of the most profound mysterious changes.…

To me the speech was very convincing and shed lite to a very touchy subject. The way she instructed the crowd made them interact within her speech. Me I would have used t-shirts and some songs from gangster rappers. Her speech looked completely memorized and it worked no…

Using a confident, but humorous tone to talk about the "few myths" of sleep to the students, later adopting a more informative and knowledgeable tone to put more emphasis on the "importance of sleep", Ms O'Hearn makes an effort to gain credibility from VCE cohort by showing them that she does understand how a VCE student function, by clearly referring to students who, "leave everything till Sunday afternoon", before they "panic" and "rush to their rooms", this does not just show the cohort that she understands them individually, but creates a sense of warmth for students to approach her more comfortably. Throughout the speech, she targets the VCE students as her audience, however, for the newsletter that followed, Bonvue subtly manipulates…

    Dulce's Speech

It was easy to see that she was nervous and her speech lacked some supporting details. Granted, there were a couple facts placed in the body of the speech which fit very well, but it just lacked facts in general. Adding more facts to the speech would have built more credibility and given Dulce more to talk about within her speech. Again, had she done just a little more preparation and research, it easily could’ve been a great speech. Even though the facts were a little sparse and she was nervous, Dulce sold the speech well. I gave her a four on both the eye contact and extemporaneous presentation because those were her strongest suits. She did not rely on the outline like a crutch which allowed her to make eye contact with the audience. Eye contact is an important nonverbal delivery skill because it gives a feeling that the speaker is likely telling the truth and it is also harder for the audience to mentally drift away (Fraleigh & Tuman, 2009). As an audience member, I felt that Dulce’s eye contact did make it seem like she was telling the truth, and it kept my attention concentrated on her. She wasn’t nervously looking away like she was hiding something which gave her more a sense of knowledge on the topic and built a trustworthy relationship with the…

“At that moment, you will be lying there (I rarely find people standing up). You will be caked in your own body. There might be a discovery; a scream will dribble down the air. The only sound I’ll hear after that will be my own breathing, and the sound of the smell, of my footsteps. The question is, what color will everything be at that moment when I come for you? What will the sky be saying? Personally, I like a chocolate-colored sky. Dark, dark chocolate. People say it suits me. I do, however, try to enjoy every color I see—the whole spectrum. A billion or so flavors, none of them quite the same, and a sky to slowly suck on. It takes the edge off the stress. It helps me relax. A SMALL THEORY People observe the colors of a day only at its…

One of the ways in which text to speech technology (TTS) has created an impact towards adding an extra dimension to the usual reading practice is by allowing the physically challenged to be immersed in the online environment. The advent of social connectivity and the diversity of new technologies that bring people together have reached the realm of healthcare. Among the technologies that have been adapted by he healthcare sector is TTS, which is viewed as a potential remedy for speech-impairment. However, healthcare insurance companies are not always accommodating to assistive technologies proliferated in more widely popular platforms. Although TTS had become an integral part of any device with assistive functions, its availability in mobile…

The earth is a planet with extreme variation in bio-diversity, geography, and climate. It is the only known planet to support intelligent life, and is a place that all human beings call home. Since the dawn of time, humans have relied on the planet around them, both land and sea, to provide them with resources and food. Often, people tend to forget that it is not just their home, but is also home to millions other different species of animals as well, and home to an even greater number of plant species. This is in terms of terrestrial, land-dwelling life. In terms of aquatic life, researchers know very little of what is potentially in our earth’s waters. However, it is safe to say that it may be even more diverse and numerous than what lies above the surface of the oceans and lakes, considering oceans cover about 75% of the earth’s surface. Consequently, with all the life on earth, natural competition and selection takes place between everything to determine who and what lives and dies, including human beings. The problem is this; humans have taken the “natural” out of “natural competition”, because they do not extract and use their resources in a natural and sustainable way. We humans, degrade and take horrible care of our planet.…
