Edson Arantes do Nascimento or as he is better known “Pele”. Whether he is known know him from the 1,284 goals he has scored in his soccer career, his work with UNICEF, or maybe he is known know him as the Goodwill ambassador for USA soccer. Either way he has made an impact on the world. From Edson to “Pele”, from September 7 to the Brazilian National team Pele’s life is an amazing journey. Pele was born on October 23,1940 in Tres Coracoes, Brazil. He lived in poverty. At 7 he was shining shoes to earn extra money for his family. Even though his family was poor he still went to school. Sadly he wasn't very good at school. It took him 6 years to learn 4 years worth of basic learning. This may be because he skipped class to play soccer .

With Pele playing for the New York Cosmos he brought major attention to soccer in the USA, where it wasn’t a very popular sport at the time. Alan Rothenberg a former President of the U.S. Soccer Federation said "Pelè was the single most important person in bringing the World Cup to the U.S.A.". Indeed Pele was a important person when soccer was coming to the USA. This may be one of the reasons why he is the Goodwill ambassador for USA soccer. He is also the FIFA co-player of the Century.
