Driving my son to school every day can become a hassle. There are so many dangerous oppositions we face when on the road. My son’s school is about 10 minutes from my house, but I cannot always assume I will make it there safely. Many drivers today are developing very dangerous driving habits. Speeding, eating, texting, and drinking while driving are some of the unsafe habits I have witnessed while in my…

has opted to create a driver safety scholarship fund in the hopes of preventing the need for a car accident lawyer. Three graduating seniors or rising freshman planning to attend an Alabama college or university will receive a scholarship for writing an original essay that highlights the dangers of texting while driving. Although this distracted driving lawyer regularly represents people involved in accidents of this type, they would prefer not to. The scholarship program is their way of trying to prevent accidents and the potential loss of life, a noble goal for…
As more incidents of fatal motor accidents flood in and the death road toll of young people slowly increases, media moguls, concerned youths and the general community alike have expressed discontent to such reckless behaviour. In an imploring opinion piece, titled “Driving the Highway from Destruction!” (Place of publication: Ednews, Date: unknown), an astute student, Elly heart denounces such misconceptions imposed upon young people and vehemently argues for the change in public perceptions and values. In addition to this, with the two large images embedded in her article, the opinion piece suggests a clear contention: that all drivers, both young and experienced, should take greater care in ensuring our safety on the roads.…

Repetition is often used in the safe driving campaign in order to successfully convey their message and also to ensure, that the viewer retains their main idea. Fear is also often used in an effort to reach the viewer on an emotional level. Presently the Government and the Department of Transportation have worked in collaboration with one another to bring forth a message to the public about road safety. Since road fatalities have affected the United States of America so much that the advice has become propaganda in every sense of the term. There is one idea propagated repeatedly in an emotional manner with appropriate cartoons and even name-calling. Has the massive propaganda campaign set out by the Government and the Department of Transportation been effective in ensuring the safety of motorist throughout the country?…
Health promotion has emerged in the last decade as an important force to improve both quality and quantity of people’s lives. Sometimes termed ‘the new public health’ it seeks to support and encourage a participative social movement that enables individuals and communities to take control over their own health. (Bunton,R & Macdonald,G 1992)…
Health promotion is a means of improving and controlling the health of individual’s communities and even populations using a varied range of approaches. For the past 30 years there have been 3 key models used to support health promotion; The Biomedical model which focuses on health education and is used to educate individuals and communities so that they can make the right decisions which could improve their lives, the social model which tries to reduce social inequalities and looks into the determinants of health and lastly the ecological model of health which considers the relationship between health and the environments in which people live (Speller, 2007). As early as the mid-19th century saw a social hygiene period with sewage in the streets and people living in very tight crammed areas bacteria began to grow rapidly and many people became ill and died, the 1848 public health act was then proposed and in this act offered health advice on germs and contagions. In 1862 the ladies sanitary reform association was formed and this saw a…
The World Health Organization (WHO) describes health promotion as allowing society to control elements of personal health, through intelligent, healthy decisions. Health promotion improves the resourcefulness of people to be accountable, and the capacity of organizations and communities to guide the determinants of health. Due to the multitude of determinants of health, health promotion needs cooperation of community and healthcare professionals (Jadelhack, 2012). Health promotion is a planned activity intended to create health, or illness-related learning. Health promotion could also be viewed as an addition to, or stand-in for, an older attempt on the prevention of disease (Tengland, 2010).…

A 17 year old driver with a P1 licence is 25% more likely to be involved in a fatal crash than a driver over 26 years. The biggest killer of young drivers is speeding and around 80% of those killed are male. Young drivers are over represented in all fatal crashes, including speeding, drink driving and fatigue (Young Drivers, 2011). Despite making up only 15% of drivers, young drivers represent around 36% of annual road fatalities. Just under half of all young Australian deaths are due to motor vehicle accidents (Young Driver Fact Base, 2013). The choices young drivers make vary, some chose protective behaviours some chose risk. Young drivers are more likely to speed, drink drive, drive at night, carry multiple passengers, use mobile phones and violate traffic rules (Risky Driving Behaviour, 2013). Of course, not every driver does this, but those who chose to are taking a risk and can cause harm to their health. The government implement many regulations for learner, P1 and P2 drivers. These include passenger restrictions, modified speed limits, zero BAC, and 120 hours of supervised driving. The government funded initiative ‘Keys2Drive’ has been implemented by the government to give a free driving lesson to learner drivers. This aims to increase young driver’s knowledge and driving ability, so the amount of young fatalities and motor vehicle accidents can be…
Defensive driving is a concept of defending yourself but instead of a person, it relates to vehicles and others around you. Defensive driving is known within today’s military and also used within law enforcement. Regardless, these methods should be taught for teens all the way to elderly in order to help understand the indicators to react of potential hazards that may or will happen. Numerous accidents happen because a driver does not pay attention to what is happening on the road. Any vehicle, immaterial of its size, can be the cause of an accident (2012). This falls into both age ranges when it comes to not paying attention or might possibly that the driver doesn’t care about the surroundings. Research on drivers with marginal deficits in cognitive function, mainly older drivers, also points the possibility of compensation of these deficits, e.g. by driving more defensively and carefully…
I, Courtney have been working for the Defensive Driving School for teens for 20 years; because of my occupation, I know common mistakes teenagers make while driving. Common mistakes that I’ve seen are, improper lane changing, changing lanes in an intersection, lack of steering control, and distracted driving. Since I see these mistakes daily, I try to avoid these things to stay out of accidents. On October 29th, I was leaving Chick fil a from picking up my late lunch, it was around two o’clock in the afternoon. After I pulled out of the parking lot a red dodge ram pulled out behind me. Before I knew it, I saw the accident unfold before my eyes. In my professional opinion, I appeared that Tom was distracted by his passenger. Kay was…
