They sat in Julia’s room, silent, until 3 in the morning; this is when the detectives heard the same whistle Helen and Julia Stoner heard. Watson told Sherlock he noticed slight movement; Holmes hit it with a cane. He fought the unidentified force until the investigator heard, what sounded like Dr. Grimesby Roylott, a scream. Sherlock and Watson instantly raced to his room and found him deceased. A yellow and brown spotted swamp adder was wrapped around his head. The observers discovered the cause of Julia Stoner’s death. Helen was content; she did not feel threatened and was able to exchange vows with her husband. Sir Conan Arthur Doyle wrote in an uplifting tone during the end of the story. Grimesby Roylott was well-known for having a reputation of being violent. First off, while Dr. Roylott was establishing his practice in Calcutta, he beat his butler to death since he was thoroughly convinced he had been stealing from him. Since he was considered an aristocrat and an important man in the medical field, he nearly absconded the capital punishment. Secondly, when he was back at Stoke Moran, his personal manor, he would physically abuse his step-daughters, Helen and Julia. He would grab them and leave large bruises on their skins that were clearly visible. Specifically, when Helen consulted with Sherlock Holmes, he profiled her and noticed the contusions upon her wrist. Such marks were explained as, “Five little livid spots, the marks of four fingers and a thumb…” (116). Lastly, Roylott hurled a blacksmith over a parapet and into the stream down below. Helen had to pay all the money she could gather in order to deter another public exposure of Dr. Roylott. Ultimately, Grimesby Roylott had a record of murder, abuse, and brutal time periods of…

“The Adventure of the Speckled Band by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, a mystery story, was more interesting than its movie version because it has more details of the characters and places, that give you a better understanding of the story. In the book there are more details about the places that the characters go, so that helps you to get a better picture of what is going on. For example in the book It describes Stoke Moran as a decrepit ,old ,rundown estate, but in the movie the mansion is in pretty good condition the grounds are beautiful. Whereas in comparison the grounds in the book are dying and brown, so clearly the book has more detail about the places then the movie simply because it's longer and you can really picture what it looks like…
