No, it should not be illegal for parents to spank their children because it is a way to teach discipline to the children. I strongly agree that a child sound get some type of punishment when he makes bad behavior, however I disagree on intense spanking. In my personal experience I had the two types of parents. My dad spanked me for anything bad I did, however my mom was an easier person to get around, and she only spanked my once in my whole life. From my personal experience I can say that I obeyed the person that spanked me more. I respected my dad more, and I didn’t obey my mother very much. When I didn't obey my mother she would threaten me by telling my dad to spank me.
There are some people that argue that spanking their kids is bad for their development.
