Spanish Class Reflection
Ever since kindergarten, Spanish class had been my favorite class. Not only because grades were easy, even though I struggles at times, but because I was and still am fascinated by the beauty of the language and culture. I grew up in Prosper, Texas where a great number of families were spanish-speaking. My family is an english-speaking one, but I had been enrolled in the dual-language program offered at Prosper ISD school. All of the dual-language teachers that I’ve had over the years have all been awesome, and if it weren’t for them, spanish wouldn’t be my favorite class. This one time, it was in my pre-ap spanish three class my freshman year, my teacher was telling a recent story of his and my friend reacted by saying “hay no”, pronounced …show more content…
Bowling is an amazing sport that I am in love with. It has kept me busy and I’ve made so many new friends over the years. Because bowling is considered a mental sport, it had helped me with volleyball, another sport I had played since middle school. Because bowling isn’t a very popular sport, I would occasionally get funny bowling jokes or remarks. They never bothered me though because I know that most people don't take bowling seriously, and that it was more of a “for fun” activity to do with your friends. Anyway, with my dad as my coach, I got pretty good at bowling. Now, I look forward to bowling collegiately and professionally, after college of course. Along with wanting to be a professional bowler, I plan to be a chiropractor. Most colleges don't have specific chiropractic classes to offer, so I would attend a school similar to Parker University in Dallas, Texas for my chiropractic schooling. After completing my postgraduate schooling, I hope to open my own office where it allows me to help even more people. I want to be a chiropractor because of an injury I once had. It was during the summer of 2015, and I was at the biggest youth bowling tournament of the year, which …show more content…
Along with my family, my high school volleyball coach has always supported me. She knew that I wasn’t planning on playing volleyball in college but she helped me with my college recruiting process regardless. Eventhough she didn’t know much about bowing, she would always ask how I did at tournaments and give me advice, to the best she could, when needed. She also taught be how to be a great leader. She would have meetings with me about how I could help the team and make them better. Because she lead me to become a leader, I now can not only use those skills while on my future bowling team, but in all of my lifes

She is the person that has helped me not only to become a better athlete, but also a better student. B.R. has made a huge impact on my life because I have become a better person because of her. She is one of the only coaches that I have ever had that genuinely cares what kind of people that her players are off of the court. She teaches us to be respectful and caring, while maintaining our grades in school. When I transferred to West at the beginning of my sophomore year, B.R. was the first person to welcome me. She helped me with the transition and made me feel at home with the team. She has also been very supportive with me and some of the health problems that I have had. I have been having knee and joint pain for the past two years and was recently diagnosed with Idiopathic Rheumatoid Arthritis. The process to finding a diagnoses was a long one, but B.R. was there for me through the whole thing. She was always the first person to ask how everything was going and how I was…

During the last track season, he placed me in a long distance race that I didn’t think I could do. I tried to talk him out of putting me into it, but he wouldn’t budge. When it came time for the race, I could see that he believed in me even though I didn’t believe in myself. In the end, I did better in the race that I thought I would. I was very thankful for Coach’s encouragement and support. He also has been a coach for many years and will continue being a coach. He loves his job as a coach and a teacher and is very good at it.…

Being a native Spanish speaker, Rodriguez’s knows how there are multiple ways of speaking a language. Similar to how the Chinese have their language and talk stories. Rodriguez’s shares love through the power of language with his family. Since Rodriguez shares a certain language with his family at home he feels that, “It is not possible for a child-any-child-ever to use his family’s language in school. Not to understand this is to misunderstand the public uses of schooling and to trivialize the nature of intimate life-a family’s language”. To him he believed that at home he a specific language that he shared with his family and no one else would be able to understand it. At home he was able to share love with his family through their language. He was against using this type of language at school because you cannot teach this to other people as it is something that comes naturally. Also if this type of language was used it would take away from the intimate aspect it contained as it would no longer be secluded to just his family. Moreover the family rarely spoke any language that was not theirs. “By, contrast, English, rarely heard in the house, was the language I came to associate with gringos”. To him there is only one language that he knows. Because of this it also makes it hard to learn in school since he does not want to have is family…

Later in my high school career, now bigger and stronger, I tried out for an elite summer softball team. My new coach was unlike any coach I had had before. He would scream in my face, and point out my flaws in front of the entire team. However, most importantly, he challenged me to grow as a person and to confront my biggest fear, which is failure. He pushed me to my limits, making me want to quit and wishing I had never played the game. Despite these challenges, I persevered and became mentally and physically…

Joining the future business leaders of America, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, becoming a youth leader at Christ Church, as well as many other volunteering activities helped me enrich my community, and make an impact in the world around me. Along with these organizations, I have played several sports in high school, in my junior and senior years I settled on my two favorite sports, track and field, and volleyball. Within these sports I have made friendships with my teammates I will never forget, and learned important lessons in humbleness when winning, and cohere with my friends when losing. By being a member of any sports teams at my high school, I regularly attended many of my school’s events, giving me the opportunity to develop relationships, and gain a tremendous sense of pride in my school. I am looking forward to bringing this same sense of pride to my college, and making many new friendships along the way. I learned over the course of my education to this point, that when I became more involved with these activities, my performance in the classroom increased alongside my…

It’s the feeling I had the day I fainted, it’s the judgmental stares I received from my classmates—the same judgmental stares I get when trying to speak Spanish openly to a fluent Spanish speaking person while the receiving end sees me as “just another gringo destroying our language with his white accent—it isn’t right.” Though I shouldn’t think these things when trying to speak Spanish because it isn’t true, it’s not what the other person is thinking and it is my language too. I have just as much a right as anyone else to speak it because it is a way of connecting with my culture. Although I have always been encouraged by my own father to speak Spanish, I will ensure that my own children have no fear in speaking Spanish to anyone—it will be our language, we will have just as much a right as anyone to speak it. It is a way to connect with our culture and ultimately the rest of the…

Horcher, my high school coach. Not only did he influence me to become better in sports he pushed me to become the best I can be, but he also advised me to keep up with my studies and give it my best in that aspect as well. I can still recall, every week when we would stay after school to practice on both my reading and writing at the time I wasn't the best,I knew I needed help and I was determined to give it my all since I knew that I needed a hand so I reached out and he helped. He stated “As long as you keep winning us basketball games and keep up with your grades you’ll go places kid”. Those words are still in my head till this day. As a result, we won many games and won a couple dollars for the school. I can certainly say that I am grateful for this man for showing me the power of not giving up and always trying your best. The determination I acquired is something I will never…

With that being said, I couldn’t be anywhere close to where I am today without the support I received throughout my years. My wife and kids have been there throughout the thick and thin. With my job I did a lot of traveling ad time away from home. We all still managed to keep in touch and communicate on a daily basis. My dad was there for me a lot until he passed away in 2049. He was a major influence in my liking of the game of baseball, which he was the one who placed a ball in my hand minutes after I was born. He always wanted me to do my best and strive to outperform the competition. His motto was, “Play every game as if it is your last game ever.” I followed…
