Southern Methodist University Mission Statement Analysis

Southern Methodist University’s mission statement resonates with the same values I admire about a University such as “promoting an environment emphasizing individual dignity and worth”. Growing up I lacked essential self-worth. Upon beginning highs school I was very confused and frustrated person. I was learning to accept myself for being gay and the conservative and traditional environment I was in made it difficult for me to express who I was. The misrepresentation and disrespect I gained from being a double minority in high school fueled a passion in me which became the catalyst for positive change in my academic career.
