Southern China During The Tang Song Dynasty Case Study
Why did Chinese farmers move from northern to southern China during the Tang and Song dynasties?
Attacks and wars by tribes drove many farmers to move south.
How did the raising of rice change over time and how did it influence China?
New types of rice were brought to China and it matured in two months instead of five which allowed the farmers to grow surplus amounts of rice.
What was the importance of the Grand Canal?
The farmers were able to ship their rice across the Grand Canal and busy boat owners had plenty of business, it was easier to move goods by water than by land.
How did the inventions of the compass, paper, woodblock printing, movable types, gunpowder, and the small pox inoculation affected Chinese society?
