Southeast Christian Church Student Ministries

1 Timothy 4:12 says “Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith, and in purity.”

On April 24, 2009
The Block Student Ministry Center opened at the Blankenbaker Campus where more than 2,000 junior high and high school students attended the Launch Party.
The Block is the result of something that the Holy Spirit began stirring in the hearts of the leadership of Southeast Christian Church several years ago.
Two verses really lift up the heartbeat behind the Block.

Judges 2:10 says “After that whole generation had been gathered to their fathers, another generation grew up, who knew neither the Lord, nor what he had done for Israel. One generation said, ‘as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord’, but then the next generation neither knew him nor what he had done.”

Luke 1:17 gives the commission of John the Baptist as this, “and he will go on before the Lord, in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of the fathers to their children and the disobedient to the wisdom of the righteous-to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.”

Student Ministry is grateful that the Southeast family, as a community, is choosing to invest in a generation that most have given up on. With God's leading, their church family wants to awaken a generation to the glory of God. There are thousands upon thousands of UN-churched teenagers in Louisville, and one by one they want to introduce them to the Savior of the world. The Block is more than a place to go, it's a place to be, belong, and become. The Block is more than a building, it is a starting place to reveal who God is, connect to Jesus and his family, and be sent out to advance the kingdom with our everyday lives. The Block is the sending place for new generation of Christ followers.

Universalism in the Early Church,” Matthew Distafano cites an impressive list of Early Church Fathers who were pro-universal salvation, and connects the switch in Christian theology to exclusivism with the writings of Augustine (in the late fourth and early fifth centuries), the Emperor Justinian, and the Fifth Ecumenical Council in Constantinople in the sixth century. As a student of patristics, I find this timing significant. Almost anyone who has studied the history of the Christian faith knows the name…
