Sparkly Guitars and Curly Hair My teeth were chattering as I carefully preordered the tickets for the Taylor Swift concert. My hands wouldn’t stop trembling, like an earthquake. I heard tons of clicks streaming through my mind. “Woohoo!” I shrieked as I read the words: your order has been confirmed. My heart instantly felt like a swimmer racing to the wall in the Olympics. Everything around me became unclear, like a faint daydream in the afternoon. Every day I would blankly glare at my calendar, anxiously counting down the days. My cousin came with me, which only sent me bouncing off the walls. Our anticipation was building tremendously like a roller coaster reaching its peak. As we got ready, we were all decked out in country inspired outfits along with curling our hair to resemble Taylor.

We slowly made our way into an overly crowded arena filled with girls and boys dressed in a country theme. Every which way I could smell hotdogs and popcorn sizzling through the air, coming directly from the concession stand. Every step to our seat fluttered our happiness like an ocean crashing upon the seashore. After finally making it through the crowds we finally approached our seats jumping for joy as if we were on a trampoline. “I can’t wait; it’s going to be amazing!” my cousin screeched at the top of her lungs, as she couldn't stay seated for more than thirty seconds. I raced to buy a T-shirt, so I could forever have a piece of her concert with me. I could only dream of meeting Taylor, but in our eyes just being in the same complex as her was great. First we watched an opening band called “Hunter Hayes”, but in reality we were just waiting for the main attraction:

When the second week of February arrived, Kayla and I left Sioux Falls around six in the morning. Arriving in Brookings a hour later, we were driven to the campus and taken to a building with a large gathering room that held other schools whom had already arrived before us. We were assigned seats in specific sections—ranging from Bass, Tenor, Alto, or Soprano. Hours of practicing went by, and we had reached the last few hours of the day. Driven to a performance hall; we ran through all the songs once more before the final…

When first grade ended I was so excited to go to second grade and I was having so much fun! I had a great teacher, Mrs.Bryan, who taught us a little bit of multiplication. She also taught us about angles and degrees. She taught us many things and was a great teacher! She was very nice and I had lots of fun. I met a new friend while in her class and her name is Kylie. We have been great friends ever since! We still hang out a lot and we have lots of memories from 2nd grade. Madison, Kylie, and I were a group who always stayed together.…

My heart was buzzing with excitement with every twist and turn up the curvy North Carolina mountain roads. The popping in my ears could not be compared to firecrackers of joy going off inside of me. I was finally getting to go to my dad’s favorite place; the Beautiful Blue Ridge Parkway. This was going to be my first time going to a National Park and I could not be more excited. As soon as we pulled onto the parkway my heart stopped, I could barely believe how beautiful it was. It looked so perfect. The mountains were such a vibrant blue that I felt as if I was dreaming. I could see so far that I felt as if I was on top of the world.…

Junior year was a year to remember, I learned many valuable lessons that I could apply to my senior year. Mrs.Wright was my english teacher and was one of my hardest classes that year. I appreciate her for making her class a challenge from essays to research papers, I learned from them and became a better writer because of her. My life during the time was overwhelming due to family problems, many of my other teachers and peers supported me and I highly thank them. One of my favorite activities was the pep rallys, Mrs.Wright told us “If you win, I will give you five points on your test,” This made our junior class pumped and ready to take the spirit stick! I loved the feeling of having pride in my school and also the ideal of winning just to…

    Death and Race Car

It was somewhere in Sasa in a two way empty street as Dale drove his beloved race car late 10 o’clock at night. At the first fifteen seconds I was feeling the heavy air against my hand out the window and my hair whacking every space within radius, smiling and excited. I felt free and infinite like those kids on The Perks of Being a Wallflower did cliché as it may be. As if nothing in the world would end, as if the street we were driving on was a never-ending street to Wonderland. Through the empty street, I then felt adrenaline as Dale zigzagged the car. It was like the car was out of control, throwing me from one side of the seat to the other. “So this is how racers feel”, I thought. Nevertheless, I felt good; really good. Even better than the first few seconds.…

I walked in the doors and looked around at the blazing lights and large crowds. I walked up the large set of stairs in the dingy room where we were to get ready. I striped down to my shorts and walked onto the large scale to test my weight before the match. I weighed in at just 97 pounds. The matches went by weight, from smallest to largest, and were displayed on the clean wall by a projector mounted high in the gym ceiling. I was in the third set of matches, and could barely stand because of all the butterflies tightening my stomach. When the time came for me to start the match, I tightened my shoelaces and put on my head gear. My opponent and I walk to the score table, and look at each other. I don't know what he is thinking about but I know…

I do not remember what time the officers grabbed me that night, but I was on the dance floor in a nightclub called the Lonestar and all seemed to be perfect. I suspect perception has plenty to do with beliefs in life, and in this instance my ability to assess my environment accurately was extremely clouded. The next thing I can remember was being pressed to the ground by two police officers, while undergoing questioning and being told I was being placed into protective custody. The clear reason for this was my being a minor in possession of alcohol and obviously diminished in my faculties.…

Call it terror, stage fright, a panic attack. By anyone's terminology, I literally thought I was going to die. Or maybe I simply wanted to die, rather than proceed with my dismal fate. Sensing a lack of oxygen in my lungs, I began to quietly hyperventilate. Breathe, Kelly, breathe. For a split second, I wondered if this was how people felt at the very moment that they "lost it".…

The first time when someone learns how to do something new is unforgettable. Like a harsh fall, your first baby tooth falling off, and those tiny things that stay with you at all time. It’s just so natural how it gets and stays permanent in your life. Those beautiful moments you will never forget. A memorable thing that marked my life was my very first bike ride. There are points in our lives that can be traced back to one central point; the one point in which everything about one’s character can change drastically. It can be an important event in somebody’s life, or a realization that who they are is not what they are capable of becoming. These points are found at different points in life for different people, and sometimes there are even multiple points that fit this description. In regards to myself, the turning point was less about myself, and more about an old friend of mine.…

Wow,” was all I could say sitting in the backseat of my aunt’s car. Nervously I clenched my seatbelt with my right hand. My parents were sitting on both sides; having a casual conversation with my aunt. We were riding in the backseat of my aunt’s car to the Vancouver Airport. Then I suddenly realized that “this is it”. I was about to get on a plane for the very first time. As excited as I was, I was not mentally prepared for everything that was about to happen.…

Long wide roads that seemed to go on endlessly, small houses reflecting the neighborhood, steel fences losing its touch for it was beginning to rust, tall palm trees swaying back and forth, and a black broken down Toyota parked near the pavement of a butterscotch house. Right around the corner is where you’d lay eyes on Thomas Jefferson Middle School. As I walk into unfamiliar building and know nothing about the culture and language a huge chill came over me, which I have never felt before. Something finally hit me I was in school in America. I walked in my first English class and sat there in a full panic mode but pretended I knew what I am doing. I heard a loud noise that said “Alright class take out your notebook and write a paragraph about your winter break”. Although I can understand some English words I had no idea how I was going to do…
