Sophie scholl
Sophie was a very brave person to defy what the Nazis said but she knew what a risk she was taking. When Hans thought of an idea and shared it with the other members of the White Rose Resistance group Willi and Christoph said that the risks were too great and that they weren’t willing to take the risk, this is where Hans said that he would take all the blame but Sophie said with great courage that she would help distribute the leaflets to the university and this is where they went on their way to the university. Hans and Sophie went while the students were in class and put these leaflets by every pillar on every floor to make people aware of what had been going on behind ‘‘the great Nazis.’’ Sophie and Hans were caught and handed over to the Nazis where Sophie was interrogated by investigator Robert Mohr. At first she claimed that they were apolitical and she gave an alibi for where she was. She was almost let out when an order comes not to let her go, she was then placed in a prison cell where she met Else Gebel. As time went on the Gestapo found more and more evidence to prosecute the Scholl’s. The trial took place on the 18th of February 1943 where Judge Roland Freisler not only sentenced Sophie and Hans Scholl to death but also the Probst’s.
Sophie Scholl was a very brave person to be an upstander and even when she was sentenced to death she was brave.

Throughout the GDR, the Stasi had profound effects on the lives of many East German citizens. The constant surveillance and intrusions on people lives were heavily seen in Anna Funder’s Stasiland. Anna Funder interviewed a series of people in Eastern Germany who encountered various difficult situations under the strict watch of the Stasi. For example, Anna interviewed a woman named Miriam Weber. Miriam became a prime target for the Stasi at the age of sixteen when she and her friend Ursula made flyers that spoke out against the injustices of the Stasi. They stuck up flyers around their town in Leipzig. The girls passed the Communist Party Regional headquarters and put up flyers near that area. They made the mistake of placing flyers in the letterboxes of two boys they knew from their school. The next day the Stasi…

Many may have heard or learned that during January 30, 1933 to May 8, 1945, Adolf Hitler ruled Germany. During his time, he sent Jews to concentration camps and led to the mass murder of six million Jews. The mass murder of the Jews was called “The Holocaust” and it lasted 12 years. The ending of the holocaust was credited to the Soviets after they began liberating Jews from several camps. Adolf Hitler had been defeated and he no longer ruled over Germany because the Soviets had defeated him. Although the Soviets did finish dethroning Adolf Hitler, there was one member of a group that did many things to resist the terrors that went on during her time. Many may have never heard of her, or her accomplishments, but her name was Sophie Scholl.…

The reason The German Soldiers and some of Germany’s populations consider Jews as their problem, was because they were people that would be considered an escape, even though they didn’t do anything. The text states “Many times over the years, leaders had turned the Jews into scapegoats.” (3) It’s unfair to turn people into a solution for a problem. Many people thought this was true but since Hitler and his Nazi army were too powerful they couldn’t do anything to stop him. The boys were fighting for their freedom by speaking against the Nazi’s and making it known to the german people what Hitler was doing. They did this by spreading the truth around Hamburg. The text states “It was this mission that had brought Karl onto the blacked-out streets of Hamburg that night in 1941. His job was to distribute those leaflets throughout the city, to stuff them into mailboxes and leave them on park benches.”…

Female accomplices of the Holocaust were put in a peculiar environment. These accomplices embodied the symbol of the female but were voluntarily at sites of extreme violence. This proved to be troublesome for SS officers because they were under the assumption that they needed to protect these women. Instead, these women embraced the violence. One example of this environment was when Vera Wohlauf, a wife of an SS officer, was present at the liquidation of the Miedzyrzec-Podlaski ghetto. Wohlauf enjoyed being at the liquidation and made other officers uneasy because she was pregnant and they wanted to set a boundary between home and violence.…

Before choosing our topic for National History day, we decided to research and come up with three topics. These topics that we found and had interest in were WWII, poverty, and civil rights. Then, we looked at the National History Day website, and looked over the example topics that were related to our three original topics. The Gestapo and other German police powers hunted the White Rose movement all over Germany. They confiscated leaflets and made paper and other writing materials hard to come by. A lack of open supporters made life very hard for the members of the white rose. Sophie claimed at her trail, 22/2/1943 “What we wrote and said is also believed by many others. They just did not dare express themselves as we did.” This style of thought was expressed be all members of the White Rose. They all believed that the German citizens were on their side, when in fact, they had little support. Most of the supporters were young German university students who had been conscripted. The plan was slightly successful in some areas but not in others. The sixth leaflet was smuggled out of Germany and taken to England where it was copied and reproduced. The British then proceeded to drop the leaflets out of planes over German towns and cities. Hans and Sophie however, never witnessed their legacy being spread in such an effective manner. They were captured after becoming over-confident and taking risks. Tried guilty of treason in June 1943 they were scheduled to be executed alongside with Christopher Porbst, another core member. Thomas Mann cried out at the trail “Good splendid young people! You shall not have died in vain; you shall not be forgotten.” They were all beheaded and thus marked the end of the…

She first talks about what the Nazi's came looking to take her for the first time and she hid with her child. She writes “That time I saved my child” (87). That quote is chilling and foreshadowing the idea that later down in her time she is going to be unable to save her own child from being killed. Which is true, later in her recount of what happened to her she writes how the child was taken and “She disappeared, I don't know where. My child would be now forty-four years old. She was four when they took her from my arms” (88). As someone who actually experienced this the fact that she has to retell her story of her child being ripped from her arm is such a hard thing to do. And us as readers need to be able to tell her story, to not have her daughter be forgotten and to make sure people know what really happened during this awful…
