Songs That Describe Hamlet
Pink Floyd- What Do You Want From Me
As you look around this room tonight
Settle in your seat and dim the lights
Do you want my blood, do you want my tears
What do you want
What do you want from me
Should I sing until I can't sing any more
Play these strings until my fingers are raw
You're so hard to please
What do you want from me

Do you think that I know something you don't know
What do you want from me
If I don't promise you the answers would you go
What do you want from me
Should I stand out in the rain
Do you want me to make a daisy chain for you

I'm not the one you need
What do you want from me

You can have anything you want
You can drift, you can dream, even walk on water
Anything you want

You can own everything you see
Sell your soul for complete control
Is that really what you need

You can lose yourself this night
See inside there is nothing to hide
Turn and face the light

What do you want from me
I chose this song because it’s a hard song but soft at the same time. The tone and beat of the song is very mixed and a little confusing like Hamlet was during that entire seen of the play. Also, the background singers are very crucial because it reminded me of the thoughts going through one's head. The lyrics at also very fitting for the scene too. This song is supposed to represent the moments before Hamlet sees the ghost of his father and what he was thinking as he is going to see him. Trapt- Stand Up
Why don't you let me be
Leave me alone
You start a fire inside that I could never control
You wanna see a reaction
Come on and cut me down
You've gone as far as I'll go
Now you're crossing the line
And I am letting you know
Well here's your reaction
Stand up
I have had enough
Walk away before I finish what you started
Face to face I will put you in your place
End this game before I finish what you started
Face to face everything will change
You planted the seed
How my anger has grown
Got an feeling

Understandably, the intense relationship between Hamlet and his uncle is not a sturdy bond, even before Hamlet learnt of his father’s murder, and before Claudius began to fear for his safety. It is believed that Hamlet’s distrust and dislike towards Claudius sprung from his mothers “o’erhasty marriage” 2.2.57 and would certainly be the origins of Hamlet’s suspicions. The best scene in which to view the relationship of Hamlet and Claudius would be Scene 3 of Act 4, where Claudius confronts Hamlet about the murder of Polonius.…

The play Hamlet is without a doubt an odd story to read based on what society today has become accustomed to. A brother killing another brother, and then marrying his wife. It is not a typical story in the modern world today. There is a vast variety of different themes that can be traced throughout the play, however the most popular is madness and sanity. Madness and sanity shape the play into what it is, without madness and sanity the play would have no life. Certain actions would not occur, certain events would not occur, and certain statements would not occur. Hamlet is a perfect example in the thought of is he acting insane or is he truly insane?…

The essence of the play practically revolves around revenge. Except for the beginning of the play where the themes are sorrow and anger because of the reasons stated before: Hamlet Sir's death and Hamlet’s mother’s hasty wedding with his Uncle Claudius. The theme of Revenge is not introduced until the second appearance of Hamlet Sir's wraith. The wraith also introduces secondary themes of a life after death and mortality when he informs his son that he is in purgatory because he did not receive his last rites or the chance to make a final confession. In addition to presenting a secondary theme, this remark by the phantom also affects Hamlet's decision to assassinate his Uncle during prayer. In conclusion, the themes of revenge, mortality, and a life after death are introduced by the specter of the old…

This song will play when Lady MacDuff is killed. When the messenger arrives to warn her, she doesn’t listen and she is killed. The mood of the song is depressing and sad and the mood goes up and down. It fits perfectly with Lady MacDuff dying for reasons that are not justifiable. (Act 4 scene 2)…

The main theme for Hamlet in my opinion is revenge and madness. Hamlet seeks revenge on Claudius for the murder of his father, which is Hamlet’s mother’s recently new husband and has not known about the murder of her late husband. Madness is another common theme in the play because Hamlet for some scenes pretends to act mad towards his companions (Act Two, Scene One) or when he is actually angry but talks to himself about his plan to seek revenge (Act Four, Scene Four). The message I got from the play is that family is truly important in life, Hamlet had a close father-son relationship so when he lost his father it was very traumatic for him. It is always very hard when you lose a loved one in your life but to find out that he was murdered by your uncle? I am not surprised for how Hamlet reacted to everything that happened in his life. That is a lot for one person to…

The main motif that is continually stressed is loyalty. Every character either breaks it or makes it stronger. And through out the play we see how this affects Hamlet, how it changes his thinking little by little. We soon realize that it is to late to even hope that there is some good in everyody's hearts, towards the end of the play. Because now they are just looking out for themselves or planning on revenge for the fallen of the play. This helps the reader understand that the main character is having a hard time trying to figure out if everthing he knew was a lie, or if there really are some people out there that will be loyal to their loved ones and the important ones in their lives.…

Throughout Hamlet, written by William Shakespeare, the character Hamlet has a myriad of relationships with other the characters. Each of these different characters play an important role in helping to develop and distinguish Hamlet’s mental health. The playlist of Hamlet’s life has songs of all different genres and decades, but they all relate back to answering the same question: was Hamlet acting crazy or had he really gone insane? These songs illustrate the relationships that Hamlet has with some of the characters from the play, along with a few songs that would have Hamlet questioning his own life and what he wants for himself.…

My fellow thanes, although I am not one of you, I address you as one who is united with you. I come to you in a time of sorrow, our noble prince is gone. We are gathered here today not only to mourn the loss of the noble Prince of Denmark, loyal son of King Hamlet and Queen Gertrude of Denmark and a true friend to his people, but we are also here to remember the good memories that we have shared with our dear friend. Hamlet passed away at such a young age, a mere 30 years. Although Hamlet lived a very fortunate life, he suffered many trials and tribulations in his short life. Hamlet was a man who enjoyed the little things like his life outside of the royal house, mingling with fellow scholars-to-be and friends. Hamlet was a noble man and was the kind of person who would fight for what he knew to be true.…

Legendary musician Bob Marley diverged from his characteristic reggae style music in the above song to record this mournful spiritual, "Redemption Song." Recorded in 1980, this reflective piece was on the last album recorded by Marley before his death in 1981. In this song, Marley sings in the first person, taking on the role of a slave, "singing the songs of freedom" (Papa, Gerber and Mohamed: Fall 1998). Marley was known for creatively blending the sounds and thoughts from religious slave spirituals with his own native Jamaican music to give rise to a new and celebrated musical style. Marley also recorded many other songs with elements of original African American slave folksongs such as "Go Down Moses", "Buffalo Soldier" and "Amazing Grace" to name just a few. It is possible that my fondness of his music is what led me to choose the topic of my research, "Slavery and Religion". I have always wondered how the enslaved Africans were able to endure the ugliness of the institution of slavery. How did they maintain any hope? How did they cope with being separated from their families? How did they survive the physical and emotional cruelty cast upon them? What kept them…
