Song Analysis Of 'Decades Rock Live !'
In 2006, Fiona Apple covers the 1986 single “I Want You” live from “Decades Rock Live!” along with the original artist Elvis Costello. (This song is originally from the album “Blood and Chocolate.”) It is about the speaker who wants his love, despite the infidelities she possesses. Apple’s voice gives off a “dark and fierce” (21 Things) tone that influences Flynn to write about the love going “very, very wrong” (21 Things) present in Gone Girl, which clearly relates to what the song is about. Furthermore, the female version goes into the perspective of Amy Elliott Dunne. Overall, “I Want You” parallels to the two situations that fall under this theme, which involves the marital conflict as well as the Nick’s affair with his student, Andie Hardy/Fitzgerald. …show more content…
The speaker in the song learns about being cheated on by “…knowing that she knows [Nick] now after only guessing…” and “…the thought of her undressing [him] or [him] undressing.” (“Fiona Apple” 2:44-2:59) Similarly, Amy’s discovery on Andie parallels to part of the lyrics as she learns the college student “…first started kissing [her] husband, reaching inside his trousers, [and] slipping into bed with him.” (Flynn 248) Having learned about being cheated on by their love interests or partners, their curiosity on the woman involved in an affair sparks not only questions about the person, but also their love life. The difference, however, is due to Amy’s manipulative nature as she “needed [Andie] to break” (248) and use the relationship against Nick as an advantage to her murder scene. Also, the woman involved in the love triangle is referred to as a “clown” (“Fiona Apple” 5:01). In Amy’s perspective, she views Andie as not only “that clown” (5:01) who is a “…little slut… hapless puppy… [and a] homewrecker” (248) to show her jealousy towards a possibly ruined marriage. Love can go wrong for both sides: the person being cheated on and the person cheating on the partner for another love interest. The reason why one person might cheat while the actual love interest is absent for some time is to fill in the void he/she has as a result of

In today’s generation, music can be exposed to any listener. It is not like the mid 60’s, when The Beatles were banned from major radio stations and even countries! Now music can be as political and diverse as an artist wants. Unfortunately music is degrading in quality, but today, situations such as poverty, involvement of hard work and everyday life situations are being heard more of in music. Although music is making a negative impact, one of the albums that I highly respect in the underground scene that states all these problems is “The Water[s]”.…

Saunders statement on the impact of Wilco song reflects his own values from his fiction by allowing him to relate his fictional stories to what people go through everyday. For Saunders, the song brings out the better in him, he feel like every type of situation has a solution. Even in the most conflicted scenario people are able or have the option to put aside their differences and workout their differences. Saunders writing style also includes writing things indirectly by giving out clues of what might be going on in a characters mind or even a scenario in the story, but he doesn’t tell his readers the problem directly. He allows his readers to process the information, take guesses and allows them to figure out things on their own as the…

After I annotated this song and actually looked into what the lyrics were saying I learned that not everyone is who you think they are. For instance, you hide a lot of things from people not because you want to ,but because you don’t know how to tell them or maybe you’re afraid of what they will think of you. In the song ‘Demons’ by Imagine Dragons the singer says,”I wanna hide the truth’(Imagine dragons line 8 box 3) ,but then he says,” don’t want to hide the truth.”( Imagine Dragons line 35 box 8) I think that he is having mixed feelings what he should do. He is afraid that if he tells you that you may leave him or you won’t look at him the same way ever again.…

“Don’t You Want Me,” was written by Human league’s lead vocalist Philip Oakey, background singer Adrian Wright as well as keyboardist Jo Callis. This song was unusual in that one of the female backing singers took a lead role, as the song was structured as a duet. The Human League thought of themselves as very cutting-edge, their music was based on electronic sounds and considered guitars "archaic and antique." Lead singer Phil Oakey has been quoted as saying this song is not a love story but more,”a nasty song about sexual power politics.” Oakley originally didn't want "Don't You Want Me" released as a single because they felt it to be to mainstream, he could have never imagined the international success the song has gained.…

In this song, the killer speaks directly to a “sir” who is later revealed to be the sheriff. Moreover, the killer feels zero remorse for his transgressions and explains to the sheriff that he only wanted to have a “good time” with his baby. Even so, he says that he killed for no other reason than that there is a “meanness in this world” which suggests that the killer held no ulterior motives for the serial murders.…

The classic rock format evolved from AOR radio stations that were attempting to appeal to an older audience by including familiar songs of the past with current hits. In 1980, AOR radio station M105 in Cleveland, Ohio began billing itself as "Cleveland's Classic Rock", playing a mix of rock music from the mid-1960s to the present. Similarly, WMET called itself "Chicago's Classic Rock" in 1981. In 1982, radio consultant Lee Abrams developed the "Timeless Rock" format which combined contemporary AOR with hits from the 1960s and 1970s.…

Kenneth Rexroth has said of Isaac Bashevis Singer's works that they seem to illustrate a specific view of the world. He described this theory on life saying that "life itself is haunted...We all live in the shadowy frivolous world of a spiritualistic séance... The point is that somewhere at the heart of reality something is running down." At first this seems to be just an eloquent masterpiece of a sentence but is it backed by truth? In my modest opinion I think that everything we live and every day we live is somewhat supernatural. It just doesn't seem that way because it's been happening for so long that it has all become natural to us. The way the world keeps turning and people keep moving. The way the race perpetuates itself and that the food supply isn't as bad as it technically could be. These things are crazy if you think about them and even though modern technology has discovered a lot of the "whys" it all still can't cease to amaze me. We know the laws of nature and of attraction and the theories of evolution and psychology. Yet we don't know why things always work out, not necessarily well, but nevertheless for every means there is an end. We don't know why bad things happen to good people or really why anything ever happens at all. We are indeed living in a "shadowy" world where we think we know what is going on but where we can't even attach a meaning to our existence. Too many of us think that we have got it all figured out only to realize in the final days that we had been living blind.…

Pink’s “Stupid Girls” is about the way the media portrays women and how that portrayal influences the behavior of women in society. Pink conveys this message through the use of her lyrics and the historical context from the song. When Pink says, “Maybe if I act like that, that guy will call me back”, she seems to be saying that the media sends women the message that the way women in the media communicate with men is the way they should be doing it as well. Women in the media often use their looks to get the attention of men and that is why so many women end up getting plastic surgery; they want to enhance the way they look because they think that looks is all that is important. At one point of the song Pink states, “What happened to the dreams of a girl president? She’s dancing in the video next to 50 Cent.” This shows that women are only viewed as sex symbols and not as serious, determined individuals. By saying this she is pointing out how women in media are only used for the way they look. This gives little girls watching the media the idea that women are only good for their looks. It makes them form their goals around looking pretty; whereas, if they had an image of a strong women running for president then they would want to be something more than someone beautiful. Pink released this song in 2006; in the years leading up to 2006 there were many instances in which the media made women to be seen as jokes. For instance, in 2005 Carl’s Jr. released an ad with Paris Hilton that showed her in a bikini on top of a nice car eating a burger. This further assessed the idea that women were seen as sex symbols. Then there are the incidents in which both Paris Hilton and Kim Kardashian came out with sex tapes. This is an example of the negative idea in which Pink was referring to; if little girls see that these women found success or fame in making a sex tape, then they figure that the way to be successful is to use their body not their minds. Pink used all these types…

    | Name: Larquitin JohnsonCourse: Music 11Professor: Dr. Anthony Gatto Assignment: Song Analysis – Forget You Date: 10/25/11 The spell of a saccharine song such as Cee Lo Green’s “Forget You,” demonstrates the magical powers of a great song that captivates the senses of many people. Even my seven-year-old daughter gets excited whenever she hears the song “Forget You” playing over the airways. From the outset, I was also wooed by its spell. The message of the song redefines my experiences of past relationships as it struck a familiar chord with the melodramatic presentation of a happy song about the heartaches of a relationship break-up. Consequently, I chose, “Forget You” to write a song analysis with the goal to determine the compositional form of the song and to identify how and why specific musical elements contribute to the shape and success of the song. The terms of reference for this song analysis are as follows: text, instrumentation, song form, vocal line, and style of the entire song. According to Wikipedia, free encyclopedia on the web, Cee Lo Green’s real name is Thomas De Carlo Callaway and the song “Forget You” was co-authored by Cee Lo Green, Christopher ‘Brody’ Brown, Peter Hermandez, Philip Lawrence and Ari Levine. The song was produced by the Smeezingtons, which is comprised of Bruno Mars, Phillip Lawrence, and Ari. Levine. The source also states that the original title for this song is “Fuck You” and that it is censored for the main media hence the change of name to “Forget You” for main stream audience. The uncensored version was released August 19, 2010 on YouTube as the first single on Cee Lo’s third album entitled “Lady Killer.” The gist of the song is captured plainly throughout the text, telling a story about a guy who is in love with a girl who had left him for a wealthier lover. One day, the jilted lover sees his ex-girlfriend driving around with her new lover and begins his negative rants…
