Michael Jackson was born on August 29th, 1958 in Gary, Indiana. He started his professional performing career in 1964 as part of The Jackson 5 and began his solo career in 1971. Known internationally as The King of Pop he has been an icon in music, fashion and dance for over 4 decades. Michael Jackson had never taken traditional dance training; he learnt how to dance just by watching those around him and improving upon it. He was strongly influenced by James Brown, Fred Astaire, Sammy Davis Jr, Gene Kelly, David Winters and often spoke of being mesmerized by the film West Side Story.
