George C. Marshall: Wartime Leader General George Catlett Marshal was a famous wartime military figure that was a leader and role model to many. His role as a leader has made him a great inspiration to many. His great leadership skills and powerful demeanor has lead many people to call him the greatest American and war hero of the 20th century. Soldier, Statesman, Peacemaker by Jack Ulrich is a biography of Marshal and it describes the contributions George C. Marshall made to our country during and even after both of the world wards. It also tells about his principles of leadership that made him into the great leader and role model he became. George C Marshall is an important historical figure, whose life impacted many. He had many accomplishments but there were several that made him stand out as an incredible leader and general. Marshall was the Chief of Staff of the US Army both before and during the Second World War. It was his duty to oversee the army’s expansion from a small and weak, homeland defense to the most powerful army ever created. This wasn’t only a great accomplishment for him and the troops, but it was a great level up for the United States army that help lead us to be the powerful nation that we are. Another great accomplishment of Marshalls, what many people and student study around the world and nation, was the Marshall Plan (aka the European Recovery Program, ERP), which was the American initiative to aid Europe after World War 2. Marshall made this plan during his role as Secretary of State. Time Magazine twice named him “Man of the Year” in 1943 and 1947. He was also the first soldier to win the Nobel Peace Prize.
