Socs Vs Greaser Research Paper
Do you ugly think being a Social is cool? I think that being a Social or "Sos" is way better than being a Greaser. First Socs have nice clothing. I would much rather wear nice, named-brand clothing than ripped jean jackets that are dirty. Also Socs have a lot of money. Money gets you cool belonging.

Some people might say that Greasers have better hair. But I think Socs have better hair because there hair is nonchalantly. As you can see, Socs are much better than Greasers. Another thing why Socs are better than Greasers are because Socs are more safer than Greasers. Socs are gallantly and greasers are clammy because they are cold, poor and don't have

A pair of Ray Ban sunglasses, a Polo Ralph Lauren shirt, Khaki shorts that extend to an inch above the knees; what is this attire associated with? Most college students would say "frat boys." This is one of the stereotypes associated with fraternities. The immediate assumption is that members of a fraternity are all tools, douche bags, or any other insult one can think of; this being the general opinion of a normal college student. I am sure there are many exceptions to this stereotype and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Fraternity of America is one of them. Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia is a fraternity based on the mutual love of music (McDuffie). The object of this report shall be to inform the reader…

The theme of the novel ‘The Outsiders’ as the main characters are explained to be represented as juvenile delinquents who belong to a violent neighbourhood and lawless gangs. The gangs that fight the most are the ‘Greasers’ and the ‘Socs’. The ‘Greasers’ are tough and as, they steal from the shops, rob cars, jump people, sneak into drive in movies and don’t do well in school. The Greasers wear- long oily hair and scruffy clothes. The Socs are tough, cold- blood and mean trouble-makers. The Soc’s do well in school; the Soc’s wear- short hairs, nice clothes, and have expensive cars. "How'd you like that haircut to begin just below the neck…?" (Dialogue). This reveals that the Socs are attacking Ponyboy and are trying to cut his hair. “What kind of world is it where all I have to be proud of is a reputation for being a hood, and greasy hair?" (Rhetorical Question). Ponyboy is asking himself that what world he would have to live in to put up with his reputation and having greasy hair. "You get tough like me and you don't get hurt. You look out for yourself and nothin' can touch you..." (Dialogue). Dally is telling Ponyboy that if your get tough like me you won’t have to put up with what you’re going through. The ‘Greasers’ and the ‘Socs’ are juvenile delinquents who fight a lot and this is how teenagers are represented in the novel.…

The most important difference is that the Greasers live in poverty, while the Socs are rich and have their perfect little home. Ponyboy says “We’re poorer than the Socs and the middle class.”(Honton 3).This shows that the Greasers are poorer than anybody else. This also shows that the Greasers sometimes can't maintain them selves because they don't have money. Therefore, Greasers are too poor, and don't have it easy like Socs that have everything they desire.…

Cool kids supposedly have great lives and are cool for most of their lives. The nerds are shunned by their classmates and prefer to focus on their studies. You may choose being cool after hearing about their lives in school but later on the nerd goes to a good college while the cool guy flips burgers at a fast-food restaurant. After college the nerd gets a good job which he uses to get a car, and changes his normal attire into suits and no longer wears glasses. The nerd finally has a good life because he worked hard and the no longer cool slacker is stuck having the job at the fast-food place. I would much rather be a nerd half my life and successful the rest than be popular and then end up failing at life…

One similarity they share is, both groups the Socials and Greasers , do wrong/bad things such as commit crimes. In the novel The Outsiders, Ponyboy stated, “I ducked and tried to run for it, but the Soc caught my arm and twisted it behind my back, and shoved my face into the fountain. I fought, but the hand at the back of my neck was strong and I had to hold my breath. I’m dying.” Ponyboy stated this to the readers when the Socs attacked Ponyboy. They traveled to the East Side to find Ponyboy. After they found him, they wanted to kill him for hanging out with their Soc girl, Cherry Valance. The Social tried to drown him in a fountain in the park. Mostly, all Socs commit crimes by assaulting the Greasers. Greasers also do wrong/bad things such as commit crimes. For example, in the novel Ponyboy stated, “Greasers are almost like hoods; we steal things and drive old souped-up cars and hold up gas stations and have a gang fight once in a while.” In the novel Ponyboy thought this when he is walking home from the movie house. He was making a comparison between the Socs and Greasers. Some Greasers commit crimes. Although they don’t go out to hurt or kill people they carry weapons with them for self-defense. Although it’s illegal to have, they use it only for protection. Another similarity they share is, both Socs and Greasers have problems. According to the novel The Outsiders Cherry stated, “It seems like we’re always searching for something to satisfy us, and never finding it. Maybe if we could lose our cool we could.’ That was the truth. Socs were always behind a wall of aloofness, careful not to let their real selves show through.” As Cherry was talking with Ponyboy while coming from the movie house, she explained to Ponyboy that although Socs don’t show their problems, and their problems cannot be seen, they have problems inside them. They always…

Ponyboy and his gang are pitted against the hateful, judging, and cruel middle class and higher. They are discriminated against because of their lack of money, and are constantly being cornered and beat up. After being cornered by the Socs, Ponyboy was asked, “You guys know what Greasers are? White trash with long greasy hair,” to which Ponyboy replies “You know what a Soc is? White trash with mustangs and madras,” this shows that the Greasers are seen as nothing more than trouble makers with slicked back hair, compared to the rich Socs (Hinton (chapter 4, paragraph 16). Once again, the Socs are “the jet set, the West-side rich kids,” and that seems like the only thing that separates the Greasers and the Socs, but the these two gangs, that is the only thing that matters (Hinton 2). In a way, this conflict was beyond the characters control. They cannot control how they are treated by others and the lives they were born into. However, Ponyboy, did in a way overcome this obstacle by becoming friends with a Soc named Cherry with whom Ponyboy has a lot in common. Although their slight friendship creates a larger conflict, it changes Ponyboy’s assumption that all Socs are the…

According to the different characters and storyline in the film, the end, for me, is normal and came back to a “peace” in the surface. The fights between Greasers and Socs seem over, and characters have changed to some degree: after a conversation in the end of the film, Greasers became more untied and like a family; Ponyboy decided to go to school to study; after Ponyboy and Johnny saved children, Randy from Socs, found Greasers are more brave and better than he thought before; Cherry did not like what Socs have done to Greasers and showed her sympathy to them…Although the death of Johnny and Dallas made me sad because they are not bad boys, the circumstance around them, especially their family and their personalities are the real reasons…

“Johnny’s parents don’t care if he came home or not”(Hinton 49). This explains how Johnny, a greaser, roamed around at night and his parents would not have cared if he came home or not. The only time Johnny’s parents noticed him was when they gave him beatings. “My parents, Johnny repeated doggedly, “did they ask about me”(Hinton 88). Johnny asks this question despite the fact that Dally ignoring him once was his answer of no. This shows that he considers that maybe his folks were worried that he has been gone for so long, but a greaser parent do not care and neither did Johnny's parents. Altogether, a greaser parent is negligent about their kids, which verifies to be yet another argument that a greasers life has much more struggles than that of a Soc. Also, another struggle that the greasers go through is having a poor reputation of being a…

In Tressie McMillan Cottom’s article “The Logic of Stupid Poor People” she observes that by dressing in higher end clothes and being able to talk white, you are able to open many doors for yourselves and others. While growing up she was able to have role models who helped her see it in action. In the article Cottom mentions various things that she experienced and how dressing or not dressing in higher end clothing influenced the situation. Cottom acknowledges that there is a difference between being presentable and acceptable. To her “Presentable is the bare minimum of social civility” (Cottom 1013) while acceptable “is about gaining access to a limited set of rewards granted upon group membership”…
