Socratic Seminar Reflection
Socratic Seminar is a group discussion over a certain text where a leader asks a question about the text. This quarter I have learned how to lead and participate in Socratic Seminar and have a group discussion. This will help me later in life in college and when I get a job because it will help me contribute to a group discussion and be part of a team.

In Socratic Seminar, I led the class first time doing Socratic Seminar it showed me how to lead a group and take control. While in S. Seminar It showed there's more to a story and just reading the story once isn’t understanding it you need to read it more like three times to really get the full meaning of the story or it’s just a waste of time to read the story and you get no actual meaning out of it. It most of all showed me I have good ideas and I need to share them with the group because they might be help the group because there might be a clue I have realized that will help answer a question but I don’t say anything. While doing S. Seminar. I also realized if you keep repeating the same idea over and over you can never get anywhere. And the biggest thing I found was you need to stay on topic in S.

I have also learned to share my ideas with the class because they could be very useful in the discussion and help answer the question. To help this I’m going to talk more with my group about the discussion. Also when I read a short story from now on I will make sure to go back read it more than once and highlight the words I don’t know because they might help my understanding of the story. Now whenever I’m answering questions I’m going to make sure to thoroughly read them through to make sure I know what it's asking and this could help me on a test to get a better

The first closed-ended question I have is: Does decision making related to psychology? The answer is definitely yes. Because in the first video David Redish said that : “Whether you are talking about neuroscience, psychology, or behavior economic, or robotics, they all come up with the same type of decision”. David Redish has studied the dynamic of brain and behavior, he has also published a book, he know this adequately. In my opinion, decision making is closed linked with brain and psychology, every behavior or decision that human made in daily life is strongly connected with our cerebrum.…

The socratic seminar during class changed my thoughts vastly as it progressed. The multiple bright ideas spread throughout the entirety of the seminar created many opportunities to reflect upon the ideas I had going into the seminar. Many of the ideas revolved around the themes of destiny and the idea of Maktub. Overall, the seminar certainly contained a lot of material to build off of.…

Us humans use a lot of fuels during the day, food fuels and mechanical fuels. Each gives us energy to power through the day, mechanical fuels to cars and food fuels to our bodies. When being compared they have some similarities and differences. Obviously the main and most distinguishable difference is the fact mechanical fuels are used for cars and food fuels are eaten by us to give us energy. So they seem completely different right? But exactly how different? Our human body runs like an engine, give us enough gas (food fuels) and we can go about our day and run with no problems.Start cutting back on gas and our bodies start to break down. So comparing us to a car, we aren’t so different. No, this essay does not allow you to start drinking gas, but it may want you to start rethinking your eating pattern.…

Last year, I has Mrs. Sulzbach for English 9 Honors and my favorite thing about her class was probably the people who were in it. Most of the people in my class were very animated and talkative, so they made class discussions fun. Most of the time I find class discussions to be boring and after talking for a while, the conversation normally dies down or people are just repeating the same ideas in different wording, but that never really happened in Mrs. Sulzbach's class. Socratic Seminars were especially fun because the conversation never stopped and a lot of interesting viewpoints were brought up, even if we sometimes strayed onto the weirdest tangents.…

The practices I think we should adopt to ensure our class can learn and grow the most from our discussion together, Cooperation and participation. This is an online course, so we don’t have the liberty to talk to our professor or classmates in person. By us participating and engaging ourselves in class room debate during the discussion board, gives us a chance to learn and grow from each other without being in a traditional class room setting.…

    • Socrates: read a biography of him here: http://www.philosophypages.com/ph/socr.htm. Socrates is the teacher and speaks first. His role is to help his students reach enlightenment. He believed the best way to do this was through the dialectic method, also called the Socratic method (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Socratic_method). Basically, Socrates asks probing questions, setting up situations that the student can respond to, usually with a yes or no response in Plato 's dialogues.…

The only way to get better at certain things is by doing them over and over. I feel as this applies to writing. In writing workshop we wrote a lot. So obviously I think that I became a better writer. Mainly because this semester I wrote as much essays as I did my freshman and sophomore year. During this class I changed some of my ways of writing because I didn’t like how it was. It also helped me see my strong and weak spots in writing. I can leave this class with tips for other students and with things that help me write better. This class is writing workshop and I will leave this class with more writing skill than I had in the beginning of the year.…

I am a bright person who has a lot to contribute to the class, but this semester, I lacked that confidence. Whenever I would read the assigned readings I would take notes in my books, jot down questions, and make sure that I fully understood the material before going to class. I was always prepared for lectures but I rarely raised my hand. I would just sit back and listen to what everyone was saying. Just because a student is actively participating, I would sit in my seat and actively listen, take notes, and in those 50 minutes I would walk out of class with some of my questions answered, new ideas and lenses to look through the same material with. I have always been a listener, it is one of my strengths as a student, but in a class such as this where participation is vital, I understand where that could be a strength and a weakness. I know my strengths but my weaknesses as a student tend to top that.…
