Socioeconomic Status In High School

The biggest factor that divided me from my classmates in high school was my family’s socioeconomic status. I come from a divorced family and both of my parents are remarried. My dad owns his own business, so he tends to have a large income. My mom is a sales manager at Aflac. In this job, she gets commission off of her sales and her team’s sales. My mother is a very good saleswoman, so she tends to do pretty well financially. I first noticed this in middle school. I had the newest phone most of the time, I was traveling places, and I was able to have the money to go and do different activities. At this time, I was bringing my friends up to the river with us to spend the weekend boating. Many of my friends had never been on a boat before. It was something completely new to them, but it seemed so rudimentary to me.
There are always a few exceptions and I seemed to be one of those exceptions. Academically, it has let me expand my horizons to schools outside of South Dakota and the surrounding area. Although scholarships have helped in the financial department, it made it easier to make the decision to go to school further away. Personally, it was affect me about being humble about the fact. I don’t like to talk to people about the things I have or the opportunities I have had because of my parents incomes because I know other people might be offended. Professional, it has not really affected me. Once I came of age, I started working for my own spending cash. I didn’t see the need for my parents to lend me money when I could earn it
