Social Worker Ethical Dilemmas
"The Code of Ethics", are the gateway to a Social Worker Career. They are our backbones. In your social worker career, you will be faced with ethical dilemmas. Ethical dilemma is the choice by the social worker between two or more relevant but contradictory ethical directives; when every alternative results in an undesirable outcome for one or more persons (page 99). Lucky for us social workers, they created a six stage decision making model, to help us with these ethical dilemma. Stage 1: Identify what is the ethical issue or dilemma. Stage 2: Resources that could help you resolve the dilemma. Stage 3: Critical Thinking. Stage 4: Conflict resolution. Stage 5: How do we implement the decision and Finally stage 6: Evaluation and Follow up. These

    A situation where I had an ethical conflict with a client is when there was a client who wanted to have an abortion. I was completing a house visit with an assigned social worker and I had to conduct the meeting. The client felt that she did not want a baby due to her age. I do not believe in abortion unless it is caught early on due to a form of sexual assault. However, I could not enforce my beliefs on the client.
