Explain in your own words the concepts social welfare and social development approach or model

Social welfare the service given to the people was not helping them to develop themselves. Client in need of the service became dependent and the service was seen as a handout and no personal responsibilities were taken by the client. This is seen as the medical model focus on the diagnosis and treatment of the client.

Social development helps the client to bring change in the situation he or she finds themselves

Developmental approach in social development are based on the strengths of the individual or community and help with the growth and development.

Conduct an interview with a social Worker in your organization requesting the worker to explain one project within the organization which reflects the organization‘s commitment to a policy of social development.
One of the main projects of The Holy Cross Child and Youth Care Centre are Family Reunification and Reintegration – In the past the organization had no contact or limited contact with the family of the child. The limited contact that existed was through the External reconstruction social worker. Now with the program workers from the organization meet the family on a regular basis and have knowledge of the families current functioning and needs that prevent the child from being placed back with the family.

When children are admitted the Holy Cross Children’s Home regular ongoing family contact is one of our main priorities. We believe that it is the best interest of the child to have contact with his/her family, community of origin or some significant others in their lives. With this in mind we strive to maintain and encourage this family contact through reunification work, through telephonic contact (in case where visit is not possible), tracing family
