CHAPTER I
Introduction

Background of the Study A social networking service is an online service on facilitating the building of social networks or social relations among students. Through social networking people can use network of online friends and group memberships to keep in touch with current friends, reconnect with old friends or create new friendships through similar interest or groups. Besides, establishing social relationships, social networking member can share interests and their ideas with other like-minded members by joining groups. They can also participate in discussions through Social Networking Sites. Members will be updated instantly about their friends and groups. In short, it is use for communication, entertainment and information. Social Network is one of the fastest growing segments of the internet. Students are the majority of the users of internet. They use it for personal and curricular activities. Most of the schools have internet enabled computer facility for their students. Besides the students are one group that is eager to know the technological advancements and latest trends. They accept these changes with open mind.

Objective of the Study
This research undertaking will evaluate the effects of social networking sites to academic performance of Juniors and Seniors students of Dulag National High School for the school year 2013-2014.

Research Questions:
On the basis of this research objective, this study sees to answer the following questions: 1. How many percent of the overall population of juniors and seniors student that are using social networking sites just like Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram? 2. Who have the maximum users of social networking sites? In terms of: * Gender * Age * Economic Status * Relationship Status 3.
